WS 737 Blown Away From Jet-bridge (Video Footage)

Wed Apr 30, 2014 5:11 pm

Didn't see this topic anywhere.

Came across this video in my Facebook news feed. Pretty crazy!
The strong winds at CYHZ actually move the nose of the aircraft away from the bridge.

It's quite funny to see the ground crew trying to hand push the plane to prevent it from moving lol.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrl3ex7w6nA&hd=1

How common is this issue in the aviation industry? I've never seen this happen myself.

Cheers!

I'm just wondering if the wind was that strong why didn't it hook the tail? Good thinking by the guys moving the ground equipment.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

It's happened a few times in DUB, we had one EI A330 blown into another one in 2005, Michael Kelly has pictures on his Flickr page. A while before that we had one FR 732 picking on another one, one of them being the Hertz 732, can't remember the date though.

It did push on the tail. If you look at the snow flakes you can see the wind is blowing from the left. It pushed on the tail and rotated the plane around the MLG. The nose wheel has less weight on it so it just skidded to the left.

Just as I already knew the Westjet video, haven't we talked about this before?

I was very impressed with the ground crew in this situation. They worked together as a team and got all equipment away from the plane as quickly as possible. It also looked like the agent and the flight attendant realized what was happening, closed the forward door and pulled the jetway back. I think it was complete human nature for that guy to run over and try and hold the airplane in place   Very instinctive. But I thought they handled it very well.

Seen it happen before, though not quite as dramatic. The plain old rubber chocks on the nose gear only really don't do you much good on a windy day on an icy surface, much better to have two pairs of good chocks (ideally with some knobby bits to dig into the ice a little), one on each main gear.
HS-748, like a 747 but better!

Whole situation handled very well indeed. However, when the plane is ready to depart since they are loading the bags into cargo hold, and without a tug anchored is beyond me... Just my

Actually, I believe he did stop it from sliding further by pushing on it like that. You can see in the video he lets go and it starts sliding again. Then he pushes on it and it stops. It's not that far fetched to believe his hand and body weight was enough to counter the force by the wind from the other side.

I'm glad it was posted here- Thanks!

I don't, nor do I suspect many others, have the time to search every single forum for interesting threads. Sometimes the "this has been discussed before" posts are a little annoying especially in a situation like this where the topic was discussed in an obscure forum, or when topics are discussed one or more years ago.....
