According to FR24, WestJet plane is C-FWBI inbound from YYZ as flight 1228 and turning back to YYZ as 1229. It's a 738 just over a year old.

If an A380 was involved it would be a non-event as the wing would have passed over the top

Even though most airlines do, some do not require wingwalkers upon aircraft arrival. I am not familiar with WS ground ops practices.

One walker per wing was the standard when I handled them. In practice though......

This is a departure though, the accident happened on pushback. Do any airlines allow pushback without wing walkers?

WN uses a single wingwalker.

Happened on pushback for the Westjet aircraft from gate 11 IIRC. Delta Global Services was doing the pushback. JetBlue EMB190 (?) was at gate 23. The Westjet left winglet contacted the LE of the JetBlue Rt Horz Stab. It doesn't look good for JetBlue plane at all. It is tight in that area for those gates, but this is unexcuseable. Have some pics of the JetBlue damage.

So whose fault is this ultimately? WestJet's or Delta's? Or shared?

Speculating, Delta Global Services will ultimately be held liable, but since WestJet hired them, they too share responsibility. They were a agent of WestJet's. All depends on how the contracts are written.

Make that C-FBWI.

UA used to have only 1 wingwalker before merger, and CO used 2. Apparently there was a study done to compare the rates of ground damage between 1 vs 2 wingwalker pushbacks and the difference was supposedly negligible. So UA decided to err on the side of safety and choose to go with 2 wingwalkers as the policy going forward.
