Final AA 762 Flights May 7, 2014

No one I know (including myself) who has been on AA's A321T, in any cabin, would have preferred to be on a 762. It's a gorgeous and comfortable airplane--don't knock it until you've tried it. Don't get me wrong, I love widebodies and wish we still had more of them flying transcons, but the A321 is a step forward, not backwards.

I was speechless the first time I boarded the AA 321T. The amount of aisle space in the First and Business Class cabins is very noticeable and makes the cabin feel spacious for a narrowbody. The hard product - in all three classes - is industry leading, especially for a domestic U.S. flight. AA arguably now offers the best trans-con soft and hard product.

Now I wonder if the 321T could be put on any other high yielding AA routes. DCA-LAX perhaps?

End of an era. Never been on an AA 767-200. 767-3's numerous times. Did ride the 767-200 on DL and TW.

Quoting AWACSooner (Reply 39):Unfortunately, they aren't the only ones, as DL and UA all are now running narrows transcon from JFK/EWR/BOS after previously running wides. Oh well... DL still operates about half of their schedule with 763s on JFK-LAX

For now; it will be phased out with their new trans-con product.

I remember going on a high school trip to Europe in probably 89 or so, we were flying back on an AA 767 ZRH-JFK - at the Zurich airport my Spanish teacher (who was not fond of flying, to say the least) completely freaked out because the plane only had two engines and she didn't think it could get us across the ocean.

Yes, on various routes including - among others - LHR, FRA, LYS, ZRH and CDG.

Oh yes I remember very well when it flew JFK-BRU daily as AA98/99, it started in 1989. Indeed it did so until 1997 when the flight was axed, to be resumed only seven years later, in 2004, with 763 equipment. Between 1989 and 1997 JFK-BRU saw a mixture of 762 and 763 equipment, but when it resumed in 2004 as AA171/172 it was only with 763 equipment until it got downgraded to a 757 in 2009.

Considering that is just a daily 738 I doubt it. Never know though.

Feb 2007, the family flew LAX-KOA on a 757, and flew back on a 767. There was a blizzard on the east coast, and I suspect there had been come creative scheduling, though Flightaware showed me that it wasn't unheaed of. The counter agent at KOA gave us row and seat assignments that didn't make sense for a 757, she said "767, baybee!" and high-fived me!

I never got to check where the aircraft was going after landing in LAX, we had a ten minute layover to DFW...

Far better seats than on the 757, I might add...

My 321T flights have been significantly better than my 762 flights. Not sad to see it go.

Holy lord. I just flew the A321T for the first time last night in F. . . words can't even begin to describe how much better it was than the 762....I slept like a newborn baby. I was a little sad I was missing gr final 762 flight, but the second I boarded the fresh plane I immediately knew I made the right decision.... The plane is so cozy, and the FA to passenger ratio makes the flight very intimate.

Quoting ckfred (Reply 45):
I don't doubt that the A321T has a modern interior. But, it is so much easier to board and deplane a 767 with twin aisles.

Only 102 people on the A321T. It was a very quick boarding process last night and the flight was full.
I'm not complaining, I'm critiquing...

How big was the 762 fleet and have they parked these aircraft in the desert or sold them to other airlines elsewhere?

This last airframe had just shy of 103,000 hours on it as of 3 months ago. I am doubtful it was sold to another airline.

I had the same experiences on my flights--boarding was extremely quick and easy due to the low total seat count.

I am going to miss those birds on my Transcon's. I enjoy the A321T's, but there is still something missing, another aisle. There is nothing like it. Its a total luxury, especially when a cart is in the aisle.

In the future I wonder if AA will put Boeing 787s on the transcons?
