Looks great, cannot wait until they go into service. Much like the 764, the 787-9 is better looking than it's stubbier sibling.

Looks a lot sharper than the 800, something about the 800 isn't all that visually pleasing but the 900 should be nice and a 787 stretched even more would look even better

It looks good, but as I mentioned in the 787 production thread I think it would have looked better had the "United" title been moved a bit and placed entirely between doors 1 and 2. It looks kind of funny with the "U" on door 2.

I am excited to see this new 789, but I can't get over how awful the Continental/United mish-mash livery and brand is. The branding is terrible. The plane is fantastic!

I don't know about the branding but the paint scheme is awful, I wish they would have gone with the last tulip scheme. But this is UA and they have bigger fish to fry when it comes to improving the airline experience like their customer service or their on board product.

As bland as the new UA livery is, adding that gentle wave to the gold stripe makes such a huge improvement IMO. I wonder why they don't roll that out to the rest of the fleet?

The gold swoosh really helps, IMHO, and I wish it would be adopted fleetwide. Agreed that the -9 just looks 'right'. I missed the -8s on their domestic US trials and hope I can snag a -9 this time.

I agree that this and other airline logos look off when they are chopped up by doors and exit outlines, especially when they could fit intact if they just moved it a bit. However in this case, I think the "United" title is where it is to center it over the crest of the swoosh line ... to move it forward without also moving the swoosh would probably make it look unbalanced.

While I agree with you about the UA livery in general, the "swishy" on the 787 livery actually really stands out and looks distinct and unique.

I agree that the pre-merger UA scheme would have looked fantastic on the 787. It's a pity that never happened.

I must disagree with the comments that the UA Tulip was boring. .the final blue scheme of United was one of the prettiest and most graceful liveries that I've seen amongst U.S. carriers. It simply evoked Rhapsody in Blue.

I feel a bit sad seeing that beautiful blue scheme replaced with the more businesslike CO livery. But the swoosh does help.

Bland corporate CO it definitely is. The 789 is definitely a pretty airplane, but it's no prettier than the 788 which is perfectly proportioned.

Looking at photos of United's 787-8s, I don't see any with broadband (Ka or Ku band) satcom domes. On Saturday, I was up at KPAE, and I spotted this aircraft in the Boeing Everett Modification Center hangar. The aircraft appears to have a Panasonic Ka band satcom dome installed, and from a count of the windows, I can tell that it is a 787-9. To my knowledge, this is the first 787-8 or -9 with a satcom dome installed.

Matt shot this photo on the prior Thursday and you can see that work was underway to install the dome:

An aircraft that beautiful but with old Business First and horrible checker pattern is the sin. The United bird may have been the "game Changer" if it had interiors that kept up with it.

I would think, given that they've started installing them on ships already in the fleet, that this aircraft would get the new standard seats straight from the factory... But it's possible there hasn't been enough lead time elapsed from when they were designed yet.

It'll be quite a couple of years before we see that. Most people would think that they missed a plane during painting.

I must say, the Blue Tulip is stunning IMO. I had the pleasure (for sentimental reasons) of flying a UA 747 out of MEL last year.

That plane was terribly last century and partly dilapidated inside, but the scheme made it all worth it. So sleek. So chic.

Given that they have allegedly already trialled the new premium products with various focus groups, you do have to wonder why they don't introduce them now rather than wait for the A350 (unless the feedback was negative)

UA international wifi product should be the same as what AA offers on the 77W and DL will install on its longhaul fleet. UA domestic wifi is a generation ahead of the standard Gogo product but reliability still suboptimal. Improving and a better price point.

AA and DL charge all pax for wifi, including F.

Actually I hate to admit it, but this Chicagoan and United FF has to agree with you. I think globe logo is quite literally very global... to me, it speaks to an international allure that Delta and American don't really convey.

One thing in regards to the 787, even the -8, that I can't get over how well she hides her size in photos. I saw a few 787s at IAH last week, one in particular was next to a UA 767 at their hanger near Terminal D, and "in-person" the 787-8 is noticeably larger, particularly wider than the 767. I mean that is a really a full-sized bird.... no doubt the -9 will appear even larger, creeping into 777 territory.

sUA had a FAR better sense for their seats than the other carriers. It's now time to have all aisle access - especially if they are reducing F. And the new sUA seat patterns and colors far exceed the CO interiors, although I admit the NEW CO interiors on a 767-300/400 and 757's look great, but ONLY because they are new.

I'm so thrilled FOR United getting the first 787-8 & 787-9, I bums me that they don't have the interiors to match. Today I was on a BA E170, in business, even their china was creative! Come on UA, sex it up!

Brand new plane, that *both* UA and CO both have on order, with excellent IFE (the best in my opinion), competitive Y seating, and a J seat that is used by many other airlines including KL which is just beginning to install them...and now UA can drop the SYD stop from LAXMEL, up against QF and VA whose J seats aren't any better, if at all--clearly this is the worst thing EVER.

What AA/DL/WN are you flying? They, and LH and the ME3 in actual F as well, all charge for wifi. The new UA doesn't charge for wifi in lounges either. Where do you get your information?
