They really needed much bigger titles.

Does OZ have a standard font size, instead of a scaleable one like say, EK or QF?

I'm booked on Asiana's A380 in C for my trip to Asia in October. Already even got to select the seats in Business Class. I'm sure someone else on here will write be on it way before I am.

Other than the years apart, my first trip to Asia was on OZ, in business class, in the month of October. I had won the grand prize at a sales seminar when they introduced HNL for the first time. We got to fly only 763s, even though they had the 744 at the time. At that time, the 763s didn't have F, so we were in the only premium cabin on the plane.

We flew HNL-SEL, stayed 3 nights, then flew SEL-BKK, stayed 4 nights, then flew BKK-SIN for 3 nights, then flew it all in reverse all the way through, with 12 hours in Seoul. We were treated very well, they even came through the cabin handing out gifts, on every flight. I have 2 ties, a gold plated nail kit, a minature 744 model and some candies. My trip was in 94.

One thing I hated, and I would bet they have changed was, the boarding was not done by rows or cabin, with 200 people all standing right next to the jetway door, they said time for boarding and eveyone all went straight for that door, and the two agents taking tickets, usually I'd be enjoying a cocktail when the rest of the plane boarded, every flight but one was boarded this way, hope it's way different for you and that massive 380, have a great trip to the Far East.

It would help a lot if they painted the side of the engines with the tail logo - like QF or EK etc. does on their A380 engines...

I assume that is a variation of their regular business class? I like the fact all seats have isle access.

It is ugly and better here on a.net than customers. The plain nacelles just take something away from the airplane...

Since KE's 'Pepsi light' livery is one of the lovelier A380 liveries, this comes in as quite a disapointment.

I doubt there is any one that has usualable eyes that thinks that the titles on this thing are even vaguely acceptable. They just look unprofessional and just plain poor. I would have thought they would at least try to make the titles even half decent looking, especially as it is essentially representing their brand image. It is much like having a poor PowerPoint presentation for an important business meeting - making the party involved look stupid. I simply don't understand it. Sorry for the rant, haha, but euro white is bad enough, but this really is beyond that.

Liveries with a plain white fuselage and an "overloaded" tail design do not suit the A380. The plane looks very tail heavy. At least they should have raised the grey belly at the front up to the middle of the wingroot like LH does it.
The A380 needs a horizontal divider to make it look sleeker. Look at the Korean or Qatar liveries which are perfect for the big Airbus.

On the return back from SEL to LAX we were on their 747-400M. It must have been a while ago since OZ left HNL for a long time before recently going back.

Always wondered if the A380 even made sense for OZ, or merely keeping up with the joneses, in this case, KE

If they put it on JFK route that's a major jump in capacity from the existing 77E (misleadingly coded as 77W in the systems)

Love the livery and I don't think the titles are too small. The A380s stubby shape only makes billboard titling look bigger and more in-your-face. As any graphic designer knows, you don't have to fill the space available. It's classier to use a smaller, more discreet typeface.

Singapore should have stuck to a smaller typeface. The larger lettering only serves to cheapen the brand.

I still ove the 70s era slanty writing on singapore airlines. I don't like the size on the OZ A380 but to me it is more positioning than anything else.

I think you missed the entire point of this thread. We are not bagging the livery. We are discussion the livery on the A380 only... Was it an A380 wearing that livery when Asian won the award - no! So, let's see the next time a vote comes around for best livery if Asiana sends in the A380 to be judged - if so I'd expect them to finish in the bottom ten

The Asiana livery is quite nice on the 744 or 772, it just doesnt suit the A380. Still I like the old Asiana livery more.

Well, probably, though since it was introduced in 2006 it could have been designed for the A380: the Negus and Negus BA livery first revealed in 1973 was designed with the Tristar in mind (which didn't enter service till '75), but I think you can take it as given that the designers of the original livery decided on the size and positioning of the typeface on the A380, so they knew what they were doing. If you look at the positioning of the typeface on the rest of the fleet it is below the window line, which looks slightly unusual, but not unique (like BA, for instance). Many people who know nothing of design would probably consider it "wrong", given that most titles are above the window line, whereas it isn't "wrong", it's just different.

It would have been very easy to slap the typeface slap bang in the middle of the two window lines on the A380, and probably most people would have, but the fact that it is positioned so close above the lower windowline suggests that the designers deliberately positioned it there, so they knew what they were doing.

Quick question which came to me whilst looking at the pictures. Lots of airlines are now moving towards more bespoke first class cabins, often incorporating non-standard window arrangements (i.e. two windows - gap - two windows etc.). Obviously when an airline (BA being another case in point here) is refitting an airframe with a new cabin, they simply bond in blanking plugs to fill the old windows. On a brand new airframe like this one, however, which is going to fly direct from the manufacturer with a specific seating product installed, does Airbus go to the bother of cutting the holes and then filling them (either because it's simply easier to have one standard on the assembly line, or to increase the later utility of the airframe should it ever pass on to another operator who wants a standard window arrangement; would imagine it's pretty major work to cut fresh holes in an older airframe...), or do they not cut them at all?

Just curious, but thanks in advance for anyone who's able to respond.

Funny, their livery came fourth in the Design Air top 10 liveries in 2012 and '13

It seems the a/c in your article uses more grey on the fuse to tie the tail into the fuse better, but it seems on the A380 they used less because the A380 is so stubby.

Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings
The heart has its seasons, its evenings and songs of its own

What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived.
