Emirates Announces 380 To FRA

Tue Jun 03, 2014 9:02 am

According to the GDS effective 01SEP EK will upgrade one of its 3 daily services to FRA with a 380. FRA was the only major destination in Europe without a 380.

I was always (still am) why EK started an A380 service MUC ahead of FRA.

Does anyone have any insight why FRA took so long? Was it a lack of suitable gates or some other reason?

FRA has enough suitable A380 gates. But FRA also has a strong local carrier that flies non stop to many of the EK destinations, especially the high yield traffic takes that choice rather than changing at somewhere and making a detour on top of that.

Main reason besides the one mentionend by PanHAM was that FRA had a higher frequency compared to the other German airports where EK flies. FRA has three daily 77W while MUC/HAM/DUS have two daily flights. Even when EK started to use the A380 to MUC they still offered more seat ex FRA.

As EK obtains more and more 380s, these threads will stop each time the 380 goes to yet another city. Instead they will be replaced with threads about where EK doesn't fly the 380. IMO.

MAD is 2 B777 avday, no A380 so far.

Great news for FRA, keeping frequencies and adding an A380 is a good upgrade in seats per week. 483 seat A380 with 14/70/399 against 354 B77W with 8/42/304. So the increase in business and first is very significative kffering 6 extra First and 38 extra Business seats a day, so they really think they'll atract many more business and first travellers, otherwise they might be shooting on the foot, offering so many extra seat can cause a drop in the fares to fill up that seats.

It'll be interesting to see how this move works out. This is the only way they have right now to add more seats to Germany, they've no more traffic rights so far to serve Germany airports.

I can't find which one of the 3 flights will be upgraded, even doing a booking it only shows B77W.

Congrats to FRA!
So that should be the 5th A380 operator in FRA after LH, TG, KE and SQ. Am I right?
I haven´t been everywhere, but it´s on my list.

I have no time to look it up now but IIRC they can fly an A380 on the hour every hour to DXB from the 4 destinaitons they serve.

They choose that Option over 49 weekly Services from as many Points in Germany they like

If that's still not enough traffic rights I could tell the joke about the insatiable pussy.cat.

Not at all. I hate false Statements. When someone says that puttingg a larger aircraft on the route is "the only" way to increase traffic it simply is not true.

There are so many "poor Little ME3" and "big protectionist European legacy 3" threads around here someone has to hold up the flag.

I don't think KE operates the A380 to FRA at the moment. They did a few years ago.

Yes, the only "limitation" would be the capacity of the airports to handle the flights, any curfews in operation and the number of seats they could profitably sell on those routes.

Despite EK's expressed desire to obtain additional access points while retaining their current frequencies, the treatment EK receives in Germany is generous compared to what is offered in some other countries.

well, I would not call it "Treatment" , they have enforcable rights given to them in a bilateral Agreement. The way they "treat" Germany by asking for even more than the very generous rights they enjoy already, exploiting the disparity in the markets even more, is shabby.
