World Cup Special Charters

yesterday in Belgian television news: special livery (outside and inside!) for SN to take the Red Devils to GRU. Charter flight, as SN does not fly to Brazil at all (makes a short stop in DKR).

I Like the idea of cabin decoration for this special event, especially the 'grass carpet'

Which other special charter flights do you know of?

I'm not sure when/what the USMNT will be flying, but I do know the American Outlaws (the US soccer supporters) formalized a trip with three UA 737 charters out of IAH departing June 13th. It was originally two, per the website, but the demand was so high they added a 3rd plane.

^ That's correct I think. There was a little bit of a ho-ha about six months ago when it came out that BA and the English FA couldn't come to an agreement over the costs and logistics of providing a dedicated national team charter:

Japan flew a JL 788 into TPA for an exhibition game and then the 772 will come back to TPA to go to GRU. The 787 was damaged on the ground in TPA wingtip struck a firetruck.

Do they take some seats out? I can't imagine football players being comfortable with 31 Inches. And there are an awful lot of people who would need a J or F seat on such a charter.

Football players are not unusually tall. They're no basketball players, and they're not as wide as American Football players. 31 inches isn't ideal, but I imagine they'll all basically have their own set of 2-4 seats to spread across.

I doubt they will be in economy. There are only 23 players and they usually get priority seating. Most widebody aircraft have that many premium seats, even the chartered ones. We're not talking about a NFL team with 50+ players.
Usually the front seats are for the players and team officials, and the rest of the plane is for the media.
There are instances however when that doesn't happen which is shocking, if you ask me. You'd think that they would make sure ahead of time that there would be enough seats for everyone. It's not that difficult.

Iberia transported the Spanish Team last Monday to Baltimore, where they are playing an exhibition game on Saturday before heading to Brazil. Iberia decorated an A330 with an special livery and the interiors also got special decorations, like personalized head covers for the players. They have launched a microsite with videos of the trip (only in Spanish):

Iberia will be flying the Spanish Team to Curitiba from Baltimore.

Spain national team flew a fewdays ago IAD with an IB A-330, EC-LYF, But I don't know what will they use to go to Brazil, but last world cup, the one we won,

, they used an IB A-340

When is the 777 supposed to come? I haven't seen it on any of the flight trackers yet. The only thing I see unusual on the flighttrackers for Tampa is an Atlas 767 from Dallas. I originally saw that Swiss was going to fly from Zurich today to TPA instead of EDW, but it looks like they are operating the EDW flight instead now.

There is nothing out of the ordinary showing for TPA except this

It shows a 767-200, but Flightaware has been wrong before and Atlas has some 767-300s in pax charter config, but I think they have a 767-200 Combi too. That may be used for the Zambia team that Japan plays tonightbecause I am not aware of anything else currently in TPA. There is no sign of a Japan Airlines 777, unless it is coming from somewhere else in the US and hasn't filed a flight plan. Isn't it a good 12 hours from Japan to TPA or more. There is nothing in flight from NRT or showing as scheduled to leave NRT. If it does leave NRT, it won't get here until tomorrow sometime since there are only 9 hours left in the day so to speak.

I won't be seeing the WC, as I'm a % of the brazilians who are not happy with it, but just wish the best for all teams and :"may the odds be with them"

Espn commentator during Portugal v. Mexico just mentioned they are flying to JFK tonight staying there and then onto GRU from JFK tomorrow AM, so it would make sense as an Interjet ac is at JFK at that time.

Anything unusual out of JAX for the USMNT this weekend or perhaps on Monday? Because they are playing their final warm up game in Jacksonville Saturday afternoon and I'm wondering if they're going to fly straight to their base in GRU following the game.

Swiss had nothing to do with World Cup, just was an Edelweiss sub while the usual Edelweiss jet HB-JHQ is going maint done on it. According to 727lover, Edelweiss brought their A330-200 on Tuesday, which is rare in the US.

Well, teams have 23 players + manager + his assistants + other team officials. Each team also have back up players, in case of injuries. I would suspect that they would travel to Brazil as well, as they could be needed with short notice.

But, by the sounds of it, the 9 players that were downgraded were players named in the squad.

The Portugese team did stop at PVD. Here's their plane parked on a taxiway at PVD on Thursday afternoon.

According to seatguru, AZ has 2 different configs on their A332s. The old 2-class aircraft still only have 20 magnifica seats.

AFAIK the Dutch team flew with KLM Cityhopper (E190 / PH-EXD) to CDG and then hopped onto AF442 (B77W / F-GSQB) to GIG. The reason why they flew AF was that they had a short practise in the morning, due to which they were unable to catch the KLM flight.

Cabin is in a VIP configuration with 100 lie-flat seats.

Perhaps appropriately this aircraft operated for Transbrasil between 1995 and 1999 after being delivered to LAN Chile in 1986. It is currently being promoted as being available in the USA and Brazil during June, presumably berween flights operated for the England team:
