Any CX B 747-400 long haul flights left? What are they?

HKG - JNB is currently showing as 744, but it will change later in the year (my flights in December are all 77W).

JNB (CX749) is still 744 as is one flight to SFO (CX870).

By the start of the winter schedule the plan is that the 744s will no longer be flying long haul. Plans do change though!

Any word on the final date of retirement for the B744 fleet as more B744's meet their scraping schedule. The latest one to be scrapped was B-HUA in May. According to Planespotters.net, there are currently 11 active B744's B-HOP, B-HOR, B-HUB, B-HUE, B-HUF, B-HUG, B-HUI, B-HUJ (all orignal 467's) B-HKT, B-HKU, B-HKV (ex SQ's 412's). Wondering which one would be the last to leave.

I really hope they bring back 744's on JNB next year - or at least 3 class 77W's (but that's unlikely).

What about the 77W's hot and high performance in JNB, and the one engine out scneario?Does it mean they will have a bit of payload restriction?

Don't know about that but CX has been flying the 77W on and off to JNB for quite a while.

With an extensive freighter network, I doubt their planes are going out fully loaded to the max takeoff weight.

YES! I just flew HKG-JNB specifically to fly the 744. Got stuck in a middle seat in Y in the back but I still had a great time. Nice still to see the winglet and the outboard engine from the window!
CX has said they will be gone from the fleet by September. No word from the agents that I talked to if there would be any big farewell for it like SQ did but I imagine since they played such an important role in the fleet there will be such a retirement party planned.

The 744s are not all leaving this year. Have a look at the link Zeke posted. There will still be seven 744s remaining by year end.

747-400 is a great bird and they will continue to hop between HKG and East Asian ports for the foreseeable horizon.

I'm afraid CX will do nothing, celebrating history in HK is actually very poor compared to the western world it's all about "new", historic buildings or cars have no place in HK society it's just the way the culture is, CX didn't even realise that the 25th anniversay of operating the 744 passed last month and I doubt they'll realise it'll be 35yrs of operating 747s this month.
I doubt you'd ever see a retro jet, they wouldn't get it.

Sad to see some of the Queen of the Skies gone, but it's inevitable and that more fascinating modern aircrafts are in the pipeline which is a good thing.
