very common these days; atleast, you get to taxi one time all around the airport with contruction works continuing on the closed runway. in fact, the taxi will take you all to way to the hangars where you can spot many new planes in and outside the TK hangars (provided you have a window seat on the right handsight)

One thing I can say about Libya is that when the current conflict at Tripoli airport ends, it will be at benefit of TK. Most of the aircraft of all three big Libyan carriers ( Libyan, Afriqiyah, Buraq ) is either damaged or destroyed. I think once the conflict is over, TK will probably have additional flights to Tripoli till all the Libyan airlines come back on their feet. Although they are not flying there for a week ( and much more to Benghazi ) I think they will be major carrier serving Libya till the end off fall which would probably help for the lost revenue.

According to Hamdi Topcu interview with Bloomberg, a new WB and ULH order will be finalized till end of this year. My bet:

10-15 A380
14 788 ( to replace 332s, new routes in America)
6 789 ( Austuralia and some latam)
10 781 (LHR, Dxb, cdg, india etc)
20 359 or 351 (fareast us)

which means 60 new WB, from current fleet 20 A333 and 20 77 w, total 100 WB which is in line with 2023 target.
if they do not phase out first 77w and 333, it will be 122

I doubt that these will be phased out in 2023 since most of them will be only 10 years old by then.

Chicago and Seioul 77w a good move, with a788 second dAily ord would be possible as well.

BOS is 2 days A343 then 1 day A333.

TK's numbers are collected with EK's under Middle East. I did the numbers assuming average seats was 276 for TK flights with the mix they have been running with.

Loads for two carriers combined were 87.7%

Assuming EK had 100% load, the worst case scenario for TK would be 75%. I'm willing to guess EK load was 90-95% and TK's load was 80-85%

I would say this route would be better suited with A333 7 days a week since you get a few more coach seats.

Looks like the plane is still in Kano and needs repairs. Also there was a picture of the fire and it looks pretty scary.
I wonder if TK can deploy a 738 (with penalties) for the routes this plane were to fly, as you can imagine mostly African destinations.

Apparently, Turkish Airlines could become Macedonia's national carrier. Don't know how that would work out... TAV runs Macedonia's airports and there was an attempt a few years ago to also make Turkish Airlines the national airline but back then Turkish owned nearby B&H Airlines from Bosnia. Macedonia doesn't have a national airline since 2009 when MAT went bankrupt. Wizz AIr is now the main airline operating from SKP.

Houston, Shanghai and Hong Kong will be the first 3 destinations with regular 77B service (newest 777s with 49J 300Y).
Guangzhou Seoul and Sao Paolo will get the birds with comfort. Quite weird that Sao Paolo is getting it back, after the product did not perform well

My sources tell me TK is in the process of applying with the Philippine civil aviation authorities for Manila service commencing next summer.

Not sure if its nonstop, or 1-stop basis via BKK/HKG or some place. Suspect 1-stop to start with.

I would also assume that MNL will be tagged to something else. BKK already has the SGN tag and I would assume that the MNL flight would be positioned in the 1 am departure bank, so that leaves KUL, SIN and HKG, but HKG seems to be doing just fine as a terminator and has only 6 weekly frequencies so that leaves SIN and KUL unless TK wants to open another new station to combine MNL with.

Just recently Hamdi Topcu mentioned MNL and TPE in an interview.
Maybe it will be a triangular flight with Taipei.

I guess KUL is doing ok, its upgauged to daily last year, and Singapur eventually has better loads due to the increasing codeshare agreements.
Leaves CGK as only possibility if its going to be a one-stop service from existing destinations.

I think its the connection 35L runway to the taxiway parallel to 05/23.
On google Earth its looking quite finished.
Now the A/Cs can go simultanously to 35L and 35R

the Taxiway south to 05/23 and the southern apron are also nearly fiinished. Picture is from April, though.

I would suggest the following:

1. Operate MNL as IST-SGN-MNL using an A333
2. Reroute the BKK-SGN service as IST-BKK-HAN if bilateral allows 5th freedom on BKK-HAN

With TK's vast EU network along with the massive growth of tourism + business between SGN and Europe, having a one stop service via IST to EU would place TK in the same competitive league as EK/QR/EY/AF/VN etc.
TK's A333s should be able to fly IST-SGN nonstop as they have used it to ICN before on a scheduled basis.

Any figures on the Y cabin load? It looks quite bad for the summer peak season. J seems full.

The annual GBTA (Global Business Travel) convention is being held this week in Los Angeles.

As with most recent years TK had a large presence including showing off their seat and meal products.

In attendance were the station managers for all US cities along with head of marketing and sales.

The topic of Comfort Class came up in questions in media questions, and the answer that was supplied was a pretty straight forward one.
Simply put TK is eliminating Comfort Class in order to have more Business Class seats instead. Sell your clients J class instead of CC

Yes TK knows it had a great CC product, but at the end it come down to what would make the most money onboard. Premium class demand has been extremely strong at TK with many flight sold out. Imperative was to boost business class capacity and the numbers far favored a straight J+Y mix than a J+CC+Y combo mix.

Question about upgrading to Comfort on JFK-IST. I have done in the past by paying $300 extra during check in. Any idea if I were to use miles during check in, how many miles would that be one way? Thanks.

Here are the upgrade rules. Its somewhat dependent on your fare class. Also looks like upgrades with miles need to be done ahead of time - not at the airport last minute.

Says 37.500 miles to upgrade to comfort. You might as well do into business for only 45,000 miles.

IMO, I'd rather keep the 37,500 and pay $300.

Can anyone confirm Lufthansa reducing MUC-IST to two daily in W14 season??

would be the first time they reduce the frequence after its three dailies for years.
I can also imagine they shift a daily to FRA, as I have the feeling FRA performs better, and slots in IST are not available

Looks like however 1774 is not scheduled December 23 - January 15.
