Strange fault. A full burst pipe with no prior leakage?

This remind me of a story my aunt told me when I was a kid,

They took off from an airport and appearently it was raining a lot, during the flight a bit of water began pour from overhead bins and people thought water was leaking from the ceiling of the aircraft due to heavy rain and panicked a bit,

One of the flight attendants opened the overhead bin to discover it was a vodka bottle crushed by a bag that was the cause of the leak,

a bad way to waste vodka and egos,

However joke aside, I would be very scared to be in that aircraft, I have never been on A380 yet but when I do, I think I'll try my best to sit on the upper floor,

There's a water leak and now the A380 is unsafe to fly?

The question was more about QFs maintenance than the A380.

and it wasn't a 'leak', it was a 'flood', going by the pictures.

All carriers have their own lay outs on A380s. Emirates have Y class only on 1st level while some other carriers have mixture of cabins. So really it depends what carrier you flying before you can say 'I will sit only on 2nd level or upper floor'.

Vodka bottle in cabin luggage? must be long time ago..must be before 9/11.

G´day

Love this! Free showers in economy! On other airlines you have to spnd a lot of money to get this, so I do not understand what people are complaining about. Wrong water temperature maybe?

Cheers

It's going to need a very good drying out there... Fortunately, the desert climate of CA means generally low humidity. Better to do this in LA than in SIN for example. Qantas is stating that 'damage' is 'cosmetic', but it must take some days to get rid of the moisture and the associated damp smell. That awful 'damp + mould' smell always hits me when I reach Survanabhumi / BKK... I guess there's not a grand budget to clean the air conditioning there.

There is? Not from the cockpit in any plane I've flown that I can recall.

And indeed not the 380. There are breakers that can be pulled (though most airlines require pilots to call up MX control before they go pulling breakers all over the place since it's rare that only one component will be on that bus).

Actually LAX is quite foggy at night this time of year. It's not uncommon to find a thick layer of dew on my car after work.

Might be OK during the day, but I have no doubt that QF & Hallmark are using every humidifier they can get their hands on.

Airlines still sell it onboard but remind passengers changing to domestic flights in the US that they have to place it in their CHECKED luggage when they pass customs and immigration.

IIRC the 744 has two 800 gallon potable water tanks. We discovered that we actually used about half of each so to save weight they started filling them 3/4 full. It was the purser's job to check the level of the potable tanks prior to departure and report to the captain. I can't tell you how many times I would check the panel only to discover that the airplane had been sitting on the ground for hours and had never been serviced. I am sure that some people heard about that later!

You make a good point about the mold, being a huge mitigation issue here. The carpet will need replacing as well as any other porous material..

Considering the amount of water that leaked, I don't think the simple "drying out" fix will work. Water could very well have gotten into the E&E bay and into areas that are not designed to be exposed to moisture/liquid. At the very least, should they not strip the cabin (and replace the seat covers/cushions, carpet, etc) to allow for a proper inspection. Maybe I'm over reacting but I'd think a full D-check level teardown is in order.
If you flew today, thank a Flight Dispatcher!

They tend to leave a lot of doors open whenever they have the aircraft attended and sitting on remote stands without ground A/C – a lot cheaper than running the APU for ventilation!

-OQD is currently doing QF9 MEL-DXB-LHR.

Seems like a very quick thorough inspection of critical components and replace/repair cabin furnishings as we'll investigate and replace the failed plumbing to ensure a repeat doesn't reoccur on the worldwide A380 fleet.

I read somewhere it was to be out of action for weeks??

In another video, I saw an interview with an actress from the show 'Community' and she said Qantas "couldn't have been nicer and more efficient in helping the passengers". It's always good to see good reviews from situations like this, considering most passengers take the disruptions personally and freak out!
