Oh please, why put DFW in there instead of PIT or DCA?

I can not believe that DCA and PIT are not a part of the final routing. Why DFW would be on the routing is beyond me as well.

You guys make a good point. It should have been CLT-PIT-PHL-CLT. Doesn't seem like there was enough time to add another leg.

The people who make these decisions are in DFW.

This is done to please employees, a.net and flyertalk basically. It isn't a conspiracy to snub anybody. With DCA you are dealing with slots so that is inconvenient for this.

I think the airline has bigger things to worry about than snubbing one ex-hub and one current hub...

This is what pmUA did for its final 737 flight--a tour of (all) its hubs and the flight # 0737.

Always sad to see a fleet type retired but customers will likely not be sad to see this one go. Have flown these birds several times on BWI-CLT runs. The biggest complaint is that they have older overhead bins that don't accept roller bags vertically. Boarding these birds is a nightmare and it feels like half the plane has to gate check bags.

what about flying to BOS, LGA or PHX? as I recall all are (or where) large 737 bases in the past for US.

PHX recently removed all markings for the 733/734 series at the US gates. One could still park at the international B gates, but it's more likely that we'll see a non-stop NRT flight.

As for PHX, yes before the Airbus switch it was only 737, 757 (And the one 747) for Boeing. Since US HQ was moved to Tempe, I am kind of surprised that they did not bring it out here. That being said it would of been nice to start DCA-CLT--PIT-PHL-DFW-PHX.

Any idea where these -400s will end up? Will they be scrapped or perhaps end up with another airline? Lastly do we know which ship number is expected to the last -400 to be retired?

I believe they'll be scrapped.

The problem would be getting the 737 to DCA.

When I first moved to Virginia, I remember that US Airways would send 734s into ORF. It sad to hear this news, because the dash 400 was I of the few 737 models that I liked. Well, these could end up in People Express, so there is a bright side to this news.

I'd be surprised if they aren't converted to freighters.

I would be. The 734s range from 23-26 years old, very few airlines are going to want them. Most of the previous 733/734s that they have retired in the past couple of years are either still stored or now scrapped.

I've been on the US 734 a few times. Always a nice ride.

Fortunately, I'm going to be on a 734 in just a few days, flying AS on LAX-PDX. Probably my last flight on a "classic" 734.

I got my first and last 737-400 this past April, and I had to take an ISP-PHL-CLT-MYR routing with a four hour layover in PHL to catch it! I was incredibly thrilled to get it, as I was originally booked on a ISP-DCA-CLT-MYR routing, but they changed my itinerary, leaving me with a 35 minute layover in CLT. I looked up other options so I could have a plane when I called them, saw the 737-400, and could NOT pass on what I thought was a dead dream!  I ended up riding on 409US, which was sent to the desert six days after my flight!

Pretty neat last day for the 734! Would have been cool to see PIT in the rotation though. Hopefully they don't screw with the farewell flight schedule like DL did with the DC-9.

I went out of the way to grab a 734 flight this January (BWI-CLT). Very nice ride, and that will probably be my first and only 734 flight.

I guess these are actually ex Piedmont birds so I guess that's why Pit was left off but in that case they should have flown through DAY also.

I thought the US 737-400 I flew on in early June was extremely comfortable. The one I flew on still seemed like a nice plane, although it is pretty old.

Do you guys think the US 734 fleet will find a new buyer or will they still be parked in the desert years from now?

Due to high hours and cycles its likely they will be scrapped.

Since 1992 I have had 2 pictures of N434US on the wall near my desk.
For all the years they have been in service I had never flown in 434. (I have
kept tail numbers for all my flights for 55 years.)

In June I flew to CLT to try for this plane one last time. Booked 3 round
trips to BWI and did not see 434. I knew it was still in service but figured
that was a good try.
Leaving to go home on Friday I was in the lounge near the C gates and saw
a 737 tail. Going to the window, there sat N434US!

Checked the destination for C-4, it was Newark.

Changed my ticket, $550 later I was on 434 and rode to EWR on my last
(I'm sure) 400 flight.
What a great feeling to accomplish my goal.

My wife and friends just smile.
