50th Anniversary Of UA Flight 823

Thu Jul 10, 2014 2:15 am

Below is an article from my hometown newspaper on the 50th anniversary of the crash of UA 823 enroute from DCA-TYS near Parrottsville, TN. No cause of the onboard fire was ever determined. In all, 39 people died aboard the Viscount.

Robert Serling's excellent book "Loud and Clear" discusses this crash; Mr. Serling has his own theory about what might have caused it.

Loud and Clear is out of print, but used copies aren't too hard to find. If you are interested in air safety, this book is a must for your library!

I grew up around the airport here in HSV and remember that day well.I know three people from here were onboard, and I think four. There were also people bound for here for work with NASA.N7405 was the first Viscount owned by Capital and was a frequent visitor here.
