It is interesting that after multiple denials, Airbus has decided to go through with this project. It looks really nice and I am glad that it gives 'second' wind to A330 project.

What I find interesting that Airbus yet again skipped -4/5/6/700 lines and jumped right into -8/900. Is this a new strategy to keep aligned with A350 family designations? Also, did they updated house colors?

It's also interesting that there is no launch costumer (I may have missed it), but as suggested many airlines are interested.

Congrats to Airbus and the A330 line.

Now I wish for them to launch A340-300NEO!

Cheers,

Andrej

What surprises me us that it is 14% more fuel efficient but range only increases 400nm. I thought that efficiency gain would increase range by much more.

Is this not a better plane for Aer Lingus rather than the A350?

Interesting, so they have chosen to increase the wingspan with the new winglets, which are almost raked tips. And indeed it is the Trent 7000.

The timelines are astouding and I hope that Airbus have true confidence in them.

They do a couple of things.

First they reduce the number of CEO's that are needed in the backlog - something many on here were worried about - and secondly ot is a huge benefit in sales of early delivery of the benefits.

I look forward to hearing more.

Plus if first flight is in 2016 then we are not too far away from first long lead time parts needing to be firmed up - namely pylons which are changing. I suspect that the skunk works at Airbus has been working for some time on this.

Likely so, but that's something that I would expect Airbus to mention in the press release, which is targeted at a wider audience than just a.net types! Further, the press release draws no connection between the 330-200 and 330-800neo, or the 330-300 and 330-900neo. Regards. -ir

It may well be, and we may see some orders transferred from 359 to 339.

Airbus wants that - it wants to maximise order flow within its 333 / 350 portfolio as a whole, with the 330 contributing on the basis of its present production rate, and avoiding any need to stretch the supply chain and assembly facilities of the 350 further than currently planned.

Just one question: how does it impact the A330 "regional" programme?
Will the -200 and -300 remain with current engines for under 3kNM? will they be optimized for that range? (lower weight)?

May be this regional version is what will bridge the gap between current backlog and the orders for the NEO?

(Well, that 4 questions actually )

I agree the A359 may be too much airplane for EI, and perhaps some others who converted their orders from A358 to A359. EI already said they want the A359 regional though, calling the ideal version for them. And I wonder what Airbus' policy will be regarding conversions from A350 to A330neo. Cannibalizing A350 sales was an issue for Airbus before launching the A330neo.

Q4 2014/Q1 2015.

Sounds like it will be early Q4 though. When they issued the RFP it did not include the NEO or 777X. 787/350/77W and 330CEO only. (could change, but they have been preaching about not buying a paper airplane, I don't see how they order the 330 with it having a paper engine.)

As i said, in due time i bet Delta ends up with at least 50 of them and maybe even pushes part of the RFP back.

As long as there is demand, Airbus will keep the current regional A330 in production. Same as they did with the A300 after launching the A330/A340.

I hope that there will also be a substantial cabin upgrade! Then the A330neos will be a killer....

Quoting DocLightning (Reply 23):
I am sure there is and my money (all imaginary cent of it) is on DL.

My (imaginary) money is on D7.
I remember Tony Fernandez was one of the very first airline CEO being outspoken about wanting the a330 neo.

The A320neo was launched without orders, so that's not an issue as long as there are actually interested airlines that will order it sooner or later.

Also ironic that the "warmed over A330" that the market rejected about 7-8years ago is what it's getting now.
