It looks like it hit the "boneyard" area. The plane shown on fire has no engine on the right side
and looks to be stored.

It's been a while since I was at TIP, but yes, the chances of hitting a "stored" (aka dumped) plane are significantly higher than hitting an active one.

I was working in Libya in 2010 and made some snapshots while taxiing to the runway. I remember one 727 in all-white "colours":

Local online news agency claiming A330 of Afriqiyah is damaged ( however picture is of A320 I believe ) so I guess some active aircraft are involved as well

http://www.libyaherald.com/2014/07/1...li-airport-fighting/#axzz37QMyJOYx

Also they claim the control tower is hit as well

http://www.libyaherald.com/2014/07/1...s-control-tower-hit/#axzz37QMyJOYx

I have a question, I have to fly to Libya soon, libyaherald and some twitter accounts say that main radar at the airport is damaged at Tripoli and that is why they are not operating nearby airport Misrata. Is this true? is Misrata airport dependent on Tripoli airport for operations ?

Great image, I take it that pictures not possible at the airport.

Looks like a b707, f27, b727 and dc8 from left to right.

There are also 2 high wing twins in the distance.

Yes, when I was there in 2009, there were wrecks all over the airport. I use the term 'wreck' because while some would say 'stored', there's no way any of these are flying again (especially not now).

Afriqiyah Airways could be forced to write-off one of its three recently delivered A330-200s following an attack on Tripoli Int'l airport this past weekend. The Libyan Herald says the A330, along with an A320, were hit with gunfire which, in the A330's case, was described as "severe".

Not in Gaddafi times for sure. I was there until 89 and they would announce on board that taking pictures was not allowed. Being an aviation enthusiast and an idiot kid, I took quite a few anyway.

The Libyans were always fond of dismantling things, no so of putting things back together. How half the LN flight stayed airborne during the embargo years is still a mystery to me.

Great pictures, I never saw that much green in Tripoli.

I just realized that there was another a/w B 727 (Buraq Aviation), which was stored in another area:

Interesting item on www.aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=167924

Firstly the report that Medavia DHC8 9H-AEY was damaged.

Secondly the Times of Malta link.

It showed damage to 5A-LAH (9 secs), an A330 (35 secs), a burnt out B727(?) 44 secs, and the damaged DHC8 (1 min 16 secs).

All said an interesting item.

Some photos being shared on social media are irrelevant and some are of the 2011 events.

Libyan announces damages on 4x A320s including TS-INN wet-leased from Nouvelair, 1x A330, and 2x CRJ900.
Afriqyiah 2x A319, 2x A320, and 3x A330.
Buraq 1xB737-800.
A presidential Falcon 900, one CRJ1000, and a Dash-8 of Medavia reg. in Malta.

All damages are minor to moderate, but of course machines are non-flyable !

A Buraq B737-400 5A-WAC departed to MLA today for overhaul check. Yesterday it ferried from TIP to Tripoli Mitiga where it had primary checks and minor necessary works to enable it to fly to Malta, most likely to Lufthansa Technik.

Given that 5A-WAC is 21 years old according to Planepictures, clearly not expecting to need any major work in Malta.

Probably back in service in a few weeks.

Are there any parked aircraft likely to be returned to service short term, while active aircraft are repaired.

Or in Libya, does parked mean not cut up yet.

There were an A319 MRA-TUN Afriqiyah flight yesterday and Ghadames Air Transport had one A320 operating out of DJE in Tunisia which is at a more or less convenient driving distance from greater Tripoli. According to FlightRadar24, Buraq 5A-WAT flew to JED today. Nouvelair says its A320 TS-INN damp leased to Libyan has only received some bullets and crew travelled home the road way.

What a waist. I bet the insurance companies love these people! I'm sure I'm not the only one here who things the world would be better off without these dim wits.

Most aircraft will be repaired if they survive the war.

Quote:
Some aircraft will undergo repair in Libya and others will be fixed in Tunisia, France and Germany, where there are some maintenance agreements.
What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived.
