Next US Destinations For TK?

Tue Jul 15, 2014 3:32 am

Where are the next (speculated) destinations for TK in the United States?

Some I can see are SFO, EWR, and MIA.
When wasn't America great?

On a personal note. SFO and MIA are my bet. Not sure which would come first. But that's what I'm going with.

ATL should be a wild card. As for DTW as well.

What is TK going to fly to SFO? SFO is a 13-14 hour flight from IST, so the A333 is out. The A343? They only have six. The A332? That's a push for the A332. The 77W? Can they fill a 77W? Pity they didn't order 787s.

TK is basically competing with the ME3 and now they have EK and EY to deal with. They are really going to have to figure out their market to compete with the likes of them.

TK can easily fill a 777 on SFO route. As soon as they recieve the new WBs they will launch SFO.

Atlanta would make no sense since its Delta's hub. Miami would be my bet since they flew there before 9/11. SFO would be TK seocnd west coast destination, is there enough demand for such a flight. Flying everywhere Emirates flies to should not necesarily be TK's goal.

I bet for MIA before SFO, however with the network TK to middle east, west asia, and africa I think thst SFO could work good for them. I go for MIA first becayse I think it's reachable with an A332 and ithink it will be easierfor them to have an spare A332 over a B77W.

DTW could be a wild card due to the lack of competence however I'm not sure f the market id big enough right now, I know a few years ago it was good for RJ but i'm not sure nowadays.

Turkish Airlines long haul fleet:

A330-200 = 12
A330-300 = 17// With 13 left on order (Deliveries until 2016)
A340-300 = 6 (Phased out by 2015)
777-300ER = 15// With 20 left on order (3 wet-leased from Jet Airways, Deliveries until 2017)

I think they could fill a pretty large plane. Having the UA/Star frequent flier base in the Bay Area would help a lot.

787 would be a great machine for them, a gate opener for new routes or increasing frequency, where 330s does not have enough leg and 77W too big, bur as far as I see no effort for it, a big mistake

I think the A380 is too big, and the 77W is too big for some routes. I think the 788 and 789 and even the 748 would begood aircraft for them.

TK's business model is frequeny and diversification of destinations rather than capacity.
788 and 789 would be great birds for them.
they need A 380 for limited destinations ( maybe max 10 birds and it does now worth to have it @ fleet)

other side of coi : 10 years ago they had only 7 A343, an amazing success

Not US-related, but I'm really hoping TK might use the 777-8x to launch IST-Australia some day

i think 789 would have enough leg as well. rentative timetable for syd.

IST- SYD. 1745--- 1715 (16,5 hours)
SYD-IST. 1930--- 0600
which means 2 mChine is enough, considering maitance 3 would be sufficient, but in stead of 3, a relatively small fleet of 6-7 can be set and fly to other destinations.

However 6-7 is small for a type, so it should be acquired together by 788 ( there is a need for at least 14 frame) number can be higher if we consider phase out of 332s toward 2020

Upcoming flights:
April/May: AM MEX-SCL 788 (J), AM EZE-MEX 789 (J).

On the 777s, will the space were premium econ is, will it be all biz, all econ, or a mix thereof?

Not in the US, i think they may point Calgary. None of the ME3 does it already, and with Air Canada as Star Alliance feeder, they can catch the Turkish community in western Canada as well as tourists, business travellers...

Its too bad that their premium econ is going bye bye. I had a chance to see it (but not sit in it) LAX-IST early this year. It looks amazing, the best Y+ (space wise) I have ever seen. That said, I can understand why they are taking it out....it uses a huge amount of space.

I think SFO will come later down the line...I would think MIA would be the next offering.

I believe I read their new 77W from Boeing will have the new layout with a total of 6-7 rows in 2-3-2 in J and then 3-4 more rows in 3-3-3 in Y. No new seat designs.

IAH will be the first to lose Comfort Class with extended J. In the interim the will be getting the odd A340 in August.

There is a sizable Turkish community in South Florida. Won't be surprised if they announce MIA.

There's also a petition for it as well. People in South Florida want Turkish Airlines to start flights to MIA.
http://www.petitiononline.com/Istanbul/petition.html

Turkey-Miami O&D passenger traffic now at over 25,000 passengers a year. Rising Turkish demographic among Florida’s growing population. Miami now has the second largest Turkish population without a direct flight.

Top 10 Turkey-US O&D markets.

1) New York - 623
2) Los Angeles - 176
3) Washington DC - 160
4) Chicago - 121
5) Boston - 80
6) San Francisco - 70
7) Miami - 68
8) NYC-ESB - 45
9) Houston - 37
10) Atlanta - 36

The most important aspect of a potential TK ISTSFO route are the Star Alliance connections on both ends. With those connections, a 77W would be fitting for the route.

I like MIA or DTW personally.

From MIA, IST can connect to Africa, Eastern Europe, Middle East and SE Asia. I think MIA-Turkey traffic has the potential to explode

Though its not going to tip the scales in MIA's favor, TK could feed AV flights in MIA as well.
Airlines flown: A3, AA, AC, AF, AM, BA, B6, CA, CO, CX, DL, EA, EL, IB, LH, MI, MQ, NH, NW, NZ, OU, PE, QF, S4, SQ, TP, UA, US, VS, WE, WN

2019: CX BOS-HKG, WE HKG-HKT, CA HKT-PEK-EWR, B6 EWR-BOS

I put my money on MIA.

ATL is only flown by BA and LH outside Skyteam, and already has DXB with DL. Not a particularly attractive or thriving place.

To me MIA is comparable to BOS in many aspects (even if they couldn't be more different). Compared to other metro areas their size (ATL, PHL, etc.), both cities have thrived with globalization and the rise of emerging economies (BOS for university/research, and MIA as the gate to LATAM).

MIA is comparably under served to the ME (just QR now) like BOS was until this year. TK would be a perfect connection point for Israel (plenty of traffic MIA-TLV, and TK has a huge operation out of TLV), Central Asia, Russia (specially secondary cities) and the Levant/Saudi to MIA and Central America.

That is true. I would say MIA is the next US destination for TK, but the TK really seems to be looking at ATL next. That's why I say ATL. I wish it would be MIA.

What are the potentials of seeing TK in MIA in the upcoming year? It all depends if they have enough A330s. I don't think a 77W would be good for a start.
