I think it's one of the worst liveries out there. It does nothing in my mind to encourage me to fly Air China.

Right. Each time I see the China 77Ws here in FRA I think its a teen in Grandma´s clothes. Or a businessman in Mao´s dress. The Air China livery is the most obvious example of completely outdated branding worldwide.

Hmm. To me this illustrates how a couple of retrojets in an airline's fleet are cool.
Because they stand out, give you something different to look at, and of course play on a sense of nostalgia.
However, if you just stick with the retro look all the way through... it just looks dated and lazy.
If Air China had moved on in the early 80s, and were now to do a retro jet that looks like - well - the 747-8i above, I'd be the first to agree it looks cool. But because this is just the same-old, same-old, I don't want to look at it. Even fresh from the paintshop, it looks drab and brings to mind a drizzly, cold morning at Heathrow airport.

To be honest I dont Think so. When I read the headline I thought I was about to see a new better scheme. Instead I see the same boring scheme they have had a long time. It is not even one of the better schemes from the eighties. I Think it is time for them to change.

That livery really screams "I'm an airplane from a communist dictatorship country. Respect and fear me"...in a good looking way.
Does it have Air China painted on the wings?
I fly to with Air China a lot, hope they put this plane on the ARN route sometime.

What you've just done is proven that this is purely a matter of personal taste. I'd say the new AA livery is one of the very few times where new was much, much better.

To many of us - I used to fly AA almost exclusively, and still have about a quarter-million miles on them - it looks like a low-cost carrier. Cheap.

That's not the image that they need to appeal to business travellers, in my opinion.

Personally, I would not choose an airline based on the paint on the outside of the aircraft, I choose based on who can get me from point A to point B in as short a time as possible at my convenience.

So nice to see a brand new 4-engine jetliner rolling off the assembly line with a strong, sophisticated, proper cheatline livery in 2014.

So sick & tired of seeing new twin-jets with boring white fuselage & painted tails or some lame blended tail design.

Kudos to Air China!

They really need a new livery, and it's a shame that they didn't get one before this gorgeous plane was painted. Same goes for MU and CZ (actually CA has the best livery among those three). But credit is due to CA for buying the 748.

It was over at BFI today and so I got to see it in person - man what a beautiful aircraft! Really wish more airlines would order it - the dreamer in me wants it to happen but the realist in me knows it is less likely with each passing month.
It'll make an outstanding looking Air Force One if/when the US Government gets around to ordering it.

It'll make an outstanding looking Air Force One if/when the US Government gets around to ordering it.

BFI or PAE? Why is this plane at BFI?

You like everything retro, don't you?

Not necessarily retro. I'm just like things that are different. So sick & tired of seeing white fuselage & painted tail or blended tail/swirls.
I do like the Royal Jordanian livery but I like Air China's better. That's all.

It was over at BFI today and so I got to see it in person - man what a beautiful aircraft! Really wish more airlines would order it - the dreamer in me wants it to happen but the realist in me knows it is less likely with each passing month.

I saw her at BFF today as well. What a stunning bird! Parked right next to the 787-9. Yummy!!

They send lots of heavy metal to BFI. Perhaps they are better equipped for flight testing there? I am curious too, as I have seen lots of heavies there.

They ran the entire flight test program for both the 788 and 747-8 out of BFI instead of PAE. Not sure why,but I was happy since I live close to BFI and it's a haul up to PAE for me. Got lots of great photos of all the test aircraft while the programs were underway.
There were three 787's there next to the Air China 747 when I drove past about 9:00 AM Saturday. Nice line-up.

Just returned to Seattle and saw her at BFI, so yup, here she is. Oh, and the Blue Angels to boot!

No time to go through all replies, but where will CA use this nice looking bird?

There's another current thread on that subject.
