China Eastern Airlines New Livery Sneak Preview
As some people probably know, China Eastern Airlines will soon introduce a new livery. A part of the livery has been spotted on the tail fin of a brand new A330, currently undergoing assembly in Toulouse.
The aircraft is MSN 1569, the one with the yellow tail fin in the photo below:

Interestingly the logo design matches precisely those leaked but as pointed out, in a colour combination not suggested.
I hope it is something special and not just eurowhite as well. I actually like the tail design quite a lot but I hope there are colours other than just gold and white on the fuselage... Unless the fuselage is all gold or partial gold (hello Gulf Air) with white on it! That would be awesome, but I guess impractical.

Looking at this picture I think the first 77W for China Eastern will have the livery shown in reply 2.
You can just make out the blue and red on the tail. But maybe it will be repainted.

How intriguing.
Maybe the A330 is a special version of the new livery? Or there will be a few versions of it like Air New Zealand? Maybe ANZ has started a new trend of multiple versions of the same basic livery...
Or maybe Boeing will simply repainted it?
Who knows... Like Etihad's geometric tailed A380, time will tell... But please may the gold one be the 'real' version...

I suspect the gold is either a covering, a special livery, or the tail is not done. I do not see them abandoning the red and blue for a flat gold.

Is the gold tail something to do with it being an A330, as in the type of jet Airbus is about to announce China will build in the future? Like some kind of celebratory jet with a special livery announcing it to the world, if you know what I mean? Maybe even used in the announcement ceremony or something? Or that the A330 Regional will be called 'Golden Eagle' or something?
That would then make the 777 version the 'real' colourscheme...

What a shame. They had an opportunity to get rid of that horrible corporate logo. What is that? Some kind of deformed bird? A real shame... Nothing like the corporate logo of CA or CZ.

For variety's sake I just wished All Chinese airlines kept their nice cheat line traditional liveries. I still really like these old liveries. MU's and CZ's current liveries (would) look so nice on their 77W's.

It's a swallow, with the distinctive forked tail. No more "deformed" than Lufthansa's crane or TAME's condor. Nor Ozark's triple swallows. It's called, "stylization". To me, it also looks like a kite, which may be intentional.

That's an excellent point....
Also, the new logo looks a bit 'Malaysia kite' and in Boeing's version, uses the same colours.
Maybe the gold Airbus version is some rushed stopgap while China Eastern ponders whether to modify it's new colours already in light of MH370 (big, emotional news obviously in China) and MH17.

Another piece added to the puzzle... Maybe the gold swallow on the A330 is something to do publicizing with the A330 completion centre or whatever in Tianjin.
Also, remember ANA painting it's first two 737-700s in an all gold version of it's standard colourscheme? I saw one about 5 years ago in Osaka and it looked awesome! Maybe China Eastern is doing something similar for some reason...

I'm not sold on the explanation. You can quite clearly see a highlight effect on the logo where it overlaps onto the rudder.
Different colours reflect light in differing intensities. Believe it or not, that is a consideration when designing a colour scheme for a vehicle, be it a plane or a mini.

There is a picture on China Eastern NYs Facebook page but it doesn't work for me to link it here.
The picture shows a regular livery but not sue how accurate that would be.
It looks like the logo on the banner on the picture above coming out of the hangar looks different than the current logo.
We'll see soon enough what it will look like.

So wait, is the logo positioned to be as if we are looking at it from above? Or from the side? If it's from the side, I could see it not being terribly bad. I always thought it was positioned as being seen from above, which is why I always thought it was deformed (e.g. the head was blended with one of the wings, but not the other).
