Mon Aug 11, 2014 7:38 am

QR unveils its luxurious 10,000 sqm premium lounge at Doha's Hamad International Airport. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways' CEO, said: "We are now very pleased to be able to offer our Premium passengers our new premium lounge, which sets new benchmarks in airport luxury and will far exceed our passengers' expectations."

The lounge features a 15-meter-long infinity pool, F1 simulators, PlayStations, family areas, etc., and can accommodate up to 1000 guests. Article and pictures at http://www.businesstraveller.com/new...-opens-premium-lounge-at-hamad-int

I think this lounge is dedicated for Business class passengers, although QR seems shrinking their First class fleet, but the First passengers will get their own Lounge before the end of the year.

I have a 9 hour layover there in October, hope it has views of the apron/runway.

On Flyertalk I already read a trip report where the poster visited this lounge. It's beyond spectacular (link)

It is really impressive; a great interior design job. Qatar has understood that you can be opulent without being gaudy. At least in pictures, it feels miles ahead of Emirates' tacky designed Business lounge at DXB T3.

I particularly like the way food is presented. It looks more Dean & Deluca or some of those high-end patisseries/boulangeries or wine bars, and less like your typical Business Lounge with a million different choices of unhealthy snacks (sandwiches, peanuts... I can't even see one on those pictures) and liquors. Kudos to QR to understand that is more about quality, healthy food and less about quantity.

Is it really that impressive? The size and facilities certainly do! But I wouldn't call the interior design job great. It looks cold and mismatched, even a bit hall like IMO.

I tend to agree, these huge open spaces really don't feel comfortable to me. In my experiences of the F lounge at DXB T3, it feels more intimate and comfortable.

I agree about the quantity over quality point. It seems like airlines are trying to ram food and alcohol down your neck from the moment you arrive at the airport!

On a side point, does anyone recognise what the tablet computers in the desktop housing are? Defiantly not iPads and I am looking for something like that right now!

- I'm pretty much with you, its like a big hanger that has been filled with stuff. Whilst some of it looks impressive it does lack a feeling of warmth.

The lounge is typical QR--you know that you are stepping into QR territory the moment you set foot. The water feature at the entrance and chandelier give the place a bit of tranquility and warmth and a coziness to it. Then you step into the hall, which is divided into several sections--and not just "one giant hall". There are several enclosed seating areas within the lounge. If you do not feel like sitting in the main seating area, you can get inside an enclosure and have a wonder view of the apron.

QR has turned the notch up considerably. I can't wait to feet the First Class Lounge, and the lounges at the North Node when they do open.
