Jet Airways Scraps JetKonnect

Mon Aug 11, 2014 3:54 pm

Jet Airways has decided to be all full service and a single brand.

Hours after Tata-Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced plans for an uber luxury full service domestic airline, Jet Airways decided to scrap its low cost or budget brand of JetKonnect. The Naresh Goyal-founded airline will now be an all full service carrier, shifting the war of Indian skies from the battlefield of budget flying to luxury travel aimed at the upper end of the society.

Thank God They got some sense knocked into themselves finally.... JetLite/JetKonnect brand confusion was one of the major reason for their downfall in the domestic sector.

I think this has do more with Air Asia India entry than Tata-SIA entry.

This is in-line with everyone else (ie., except EY and 9W) predicted. 9W's primary role is to feed AUH, everything else is just a sideshow.

So with EY instilling sense into 9W, who's going to knock some sense into EY? I mean, Air Berlin, Alitalia...where next?

Perhaps SAS? Now that's an airline without any sort of strategy whatsoever...

I think this is wise. Whereas there is huge demand for no frills, there is also a large demand for premium travel. I'm not saying amenity kits on 45 min domestic flights, but Jet's old style with hot meals, PTVs, clean planes and punctual flights were very popular back when I lived in India.

I was on their website a while ago and the JetKonnect page still appears to active.

Here is another link on their plans to scrap from NDTV, a reliable news source of news from India.

At last some sanity from Jet Airways. I remember some years back when Jet Airways commanded a huge loyalty from its customers. Customers preferred 9W for travel. I was also one among them, but off late 9W became such a mess that people started moving to other airlines.

Will never forget the chicken curry I had on a 9W flight NAG-DEL back in the day. Probably the best Y class meal I've ever had. Hopefully Jet can get back to where they used to be.

Glad they chose one strategy. Unfortunately the only carrier making any money in India is Indigo. Must be their great meals

Well, hardly "luxury"! On domestic routes at least, Jet is just aother airline indistiguishable from most.

And they do that by offering a plain but very reliable service, pleasant cabin staff, sensible fares, clean modern planes, and a very strong brand. Much the best airline in the country.
