Geez. Any more details? What plane was it? How did it happen?

Some more here.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-28778604

The Cessna 560XL plane had taken off from Rio de Janeiro's domestic airport and was heading to the city of Guaruja, near Santos, the Brazilian Air Force said.

Are you sure that's the right photo; kind of looks like that AH-64 that crashed into a building in Taiwan a few months back?

Yes, that image is an AH-64. I'm guessing someone googled crashed images and tried to associate it with the crash.

Edit: Nevermind, now it's a picture of the crash site.

What is the terrain like in the region? How was the weather? Any possibility of sabotage?

Apparently poor visibility led the pilot to perform a go around, leading to the accident. No further detail nor any idea how reliable this info is.

Heavy thunderstorms are moving through the area so weather could be a factor. Santos has a barely used 5,000ft runway at sea level. There are mountains a few thousand feet high in the general region, but nothing directly near the airport. The airport is very small with no commercial traffic. There are no visual aids, lights, ILS or anything else to help a pilot land at the airport.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

According to Globo tv: local witness says the plane had visible flames all around it before crashing ("a ball of fire...")

On another webiste (terra): a family member said they had info that the plane hit a helicopter before crashing (but no other place confirmed it here).

Is it possible that a family member received this info so early? sounds wierd no one else is reporting this.

According to this article, one of the pilots (I assume the plane was crewed by two people) posted on his Facebook profile that he was "Tired of flying". Since I don't speak Portuguese, I had to use Google Translate. I imagine he was exhausted due to a busy schedule?

Very sad.

As said, he was running for the Presidency and went to Rio for an interview on the most prestige weekday news program of the Brazilian TV. Young, humble and family oriented, Mr. Campos probably would not win the election but i have no doubt that he would win in the future. RIP !

In the news, the contact between the pilot and the ATC at the time they decided to abort landing do not show anything wrong and his voice was normal (calm). No stress at all ! Interesting to imagine what took PR-AFA down.
New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

Am I wrong to think that some failure has to have happened in this accident? Maybe a bird strike I don't know, but is it right to assume that the aircraft didn't hit anything?

I'm afraid it's impossible to assume anything at the moment. Only the investigation will reveal what really happened.

That video is really shocking. Vertical dive into the ground! Horrible.

If this is credible then:
- I saw non of the "flames" reported.
- The aircraft looks to be slightly inverted in a near vertical dive
- No obvious structural defects - I see both wings, both engines, most of the tail (can't clearly identify right horizontal stab)
- Relatively low overcast.

Has the appearances of a loss of control/vertigo type accident. Possible loss of spatial orientation in the clouds.

I thought from the start (go around) that it was spatial disorientation, and seeing it looking inverted seems to confirm it.
