Hi all - Not sure if this info has been posted on this site...

From "Let's Fly!" blog

"Just in time for the year-end holidays, two popular cities are returning to Delta Air Lines’ route map from RDU. Nonstop service to Nassau is scheduled daily for the peak holiday travel period of Dec. 20, 2014-Jan. 20, 2015. Miami nonstop service will operate on Saturdays from Dec. 20, 2014- Aug. 15, 2015. "

Nassau is not a surprise at all but what's the purpose of the Sat only service to MIA. This can't be seen as any real challenge to AA and US daily non-stops.

Is this an example of utilizing an down aircraft on Saturday's?

Service to NAS is flown by Shuttle America E175 and MIA is Endeavor CRJ900. Skeds to MIA are perfect to book same day cruise departures and arrivals. RDU-NAS times are a bit odd with a late in afternoon dptr not arriving NAS until almost 6pm. Would be ideal if flight times were flipped NAS-RDU-NAS as it appears the airplane originates in NAS and turns in RDU.

Love how Delta is always identifying and willing to try out new markets, that aren't just 'connecting the dots'.

Whoever books a cruise and arrives the same day it departs is quite a risk taker... I've seen so many people miss their cruise because of late flights, ATC delays, cancelled flights, etc. Saturday only flights both ways are not good for 7 day cruises. You need Sat and Sun as a minimum to get cruise traffic.

Agreed. Always should try to get there one full day before.

Well its good to grab the cruises that depart on Saturdays and its good to grab the people who don't want to be risky and arrive a day early for Sunday. But the departure back clearly an issue.
