China Eastern New 77W Video+Service Info Released

Tue Aug 19, 2014 12:54 pm

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNzU4MjYwMDA4.html
(In Chinese)

(Other pictures and details [ENGLISH] of the cabin:
http://talkairlines.wordpress.com/20...0er-interior-a-great-leap-forward/ )

In the beginning, you can see that the simulated 777-300ER was featuring the livery I covered a few months ago:
https://talkairlines.wordpress.com/2...ery-777-300er-simulated-by-boeing/
https://talkairlines.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/mu-77w.png?w=700&h=293

Still, the livery should not be the latest finalised version since the new swallow logo extends to the end-edge of the tail. Yet, the logo is in fact the altered blue-and-red swallow along with the current fonts, shown in the picture above. The golden swallow spotted on the A330 may be a special livery. Yet, no info on that yet.

Really looking forward to the transformation of MU! According to the company's media release (only in Chinese), the new 77W will feature tons of interesting services:

>Wi-Fi

>Designer cooking facilities
>>Rice cooker (currently only featured on Japanese carriers)
>>Wine cooler/ fridge with glass doors
>>Toaster

>Tea sets provided to customers for tea steeping experiencing

>'AFTERNOON TEA TIME' galley bar

>Tablet offerings

>New in-flight sales innovation
>>MU cooperated with Yeepay to come up with new e-payment method so travellers can not only buy duty-free items but also rent items for their personal basic needs. (Something that has never been heard of in the airline industry!)

I am disappointed but not surprised by the decision of China Eastern Airlines using a 3-4-3 configuration in economy cabin. Unlike Emirates, they don't have the fancy television system and great meals to distract passengers from the uncomfortable seats.

I still think all carriers with a nine abreast seating on 787s or ten abreast seating on 777s should receive an automatic one star reduction from their Skytrax ranking or other similar airline ranking program.

However, the J cabin looks nice and I am glad that they decide to go with the reverse herringbone all aisle access seats. That will give China Eastern Airlines an edge and the seats will indeed be better than United's current BusinessFirst product that is used on flights directly competing with MU. It will give Skyteam some edges.

Another carrier using the Zodiac seats config, after US, BR, CX, AA, CI, and now MU. Congrats!!!

Surprised to see MU adopt the SQ Suites concept!

Now why is the A330 rolling back that fast on here? http://youtu.be/8EMk7_yviZk?t=28s

Looks very nice, has the mandatory First Class suites and herringbone Business Class you expect from a 777-300ER leaving the Seatle factory these days.

The 77W will mainly serve North America (Los Angeles and New York have been mentioned) followed by European destinations in the nearby future.

PVG - LAX? That's a very high O&D route.

Doesn't look that special. I'm curious though about their afternoon tea time galley bar. What's interesting about the middle pair F-seats: the center console can be lowered to be leveled when the seat is converted to a bed (I only know SQ is offering that with their suites)

The rice cooker and toaster are the highlights IMO
I mean we've never seen an actual electronic rice cooker on a plane before!
Same with the toasters, rare!

It looks nice and 3-4-3 may not be so bad but the seat pitch in the pictures looks very tight.

The first MU 77W was flown to VCV Friday for paint so should be out fully painted in a day or so.

fancy television system and great meals

Now that makes me curious what MU's are like. They look pretty dang sweet, at least in those images. Of course that could be somewhat different from final product.

Here's hoping it sees SFO!

Dont get fooled by the glossy pictures! MU is a chinese carrier catering to chinese passengers.
Their international film selection coincides with Jackie Chan's filmography, and some movies in cantonese with awkward English subtitles.

Quoting VCEflyboy (Reply 15):

That's a bit simplistic and over-generalising. MU does cater for the Chinese population however, like CZ and CA, have a decent selection of English films (albeit older) along with other international language films and dramas. Mandarin films are the most common on MU considering that it is Shanghai based, not Guangdong or Hong Kong. English subtitles are not bad but of course, like all Chinese films with English subtitles, need work.

Having a rice cooker and toaster onboard is really not going to be special seeing as it will be used only for F and C customers, and depending on the rice cooker they use it could be even worse than using the existing way of cooking rice. CA have a lovely fluffy rice that isn't too hard or soft. Rice cookers can have different results so it will be interesting to see how the food quality goes. The tea idea is great and with Chinese getting quite picky with tea choices nowdays it's a great development that hopefully will get carried over to the other local carriers we have.

The 3-4-3 in Y is just a huge turnoff despite the large AVOD screens. Typically Shanghainese.
Inspire the truth.

Somebody definitely needs to take a ride on the ME3!
Mine was not a criticism. I was just stating the fact that MU caters to their own consumer base, like most airlines do. Western people do not choose MU for their IFE or inflight amenities, but because they are the cheapest.
I am also flying MU next month for a personal weekend trip to HKG. KA and CX ware almost double the price, so I chose MU.

I have black listed MU recently because they didn't perform / play safety demo on 2 of my flights.

When I asked the ISM why wasn't there a demo, she simply reply "We didn't have enough ground time, nobody watches it anyway".

I won't fly them even if is free.

Hong Kong is not China. Not better or worse, just different.

Actually rice cooker and toaster are quite common on Asian premium airline. CX installed rice cooker in late 90s or early 2000s when they introduce the flat bed First Class.

Anyhow, the new cabin on MU 77W looks quite nice. WIll they standardize this product on their existing fleet? At least some of the newer aircraft?

I thought CI (and AC and QR) has a BE Aerospace Super Diamond seat.

Is this based on the Cirrus Zodiac??

The major ways of extinguishing include the storage areas, TV screens, and seat control locations.

Yes indeed and thanks for sharing! However, there are differences between the A330 version of the seat and the 777 version. One of the major differences is the seat colour combination.

I kind of feel like MU is doing what MH was doing with its A380
Painting the logo on first then finishing the rest (ex wavy lines) back in its home base
Thoughts?
