PeopleExpress To Fly PHF-MCO 4x Weekly

Mon Aug 25, 2014 2:44 am

Beginning October 16th, People Express will fly to Orlando 4x Weekly (Mon,Wed,Fri,Sun). Interesting to see less frequency to Orlando than West Palm. How is People Express doing? I would assume not too shabby since they are not cutting any routes too dramatically.

Didn't G4 just stop PHF-SFB citing poor loads? Wonder if People Express will do any better to Orlando.

FL flew PHF-MCO every day unless I'm mistaken.

Perhaps they don't have the aircraft to run it daily yet?

They should certainly be able to make it work daily in the winter months, they may also be starting slow since loads are typically lower that time of year.

Going off this article, PeopleExpress' loads haven't been too stellar...nearly 40,000 people on 450 flights is less than a 60% LF.

With a walkup fare of only $109 for PHF-EWR tomorrow, I'm nervous they're not going to make it to October...

Well it said:

"According to today’s press release, since its inaugural flights, PEOPLExpress has carried nearly 40,000 customers on more than 450 flights."

So if one customer is on a round trip ticket, that already changes things. Then the issue of repeat customers? Too much is left open to interpretation to be calculating LFs from that statement.

Their time is limited, I would be very surprised if they were still around 6 months from now. A 60% L/F is troubling.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that however you want to slice it, it's not good.

Given that they've been flying for 2 months, I'm hoping for an improvement (e.g. adding more, viable, if you will, hubs) as it's always nice to see different tails in the air.

Also, getting back on track, it looks like PeopleExpress has monopolized the V2 734s, leaving only 1 733 for them to rely on for growth from Vision. Would these 3/4 planes allow for MCO to grow to daily? Do we see V2 leasing a few more 737s to operate on behalf of PE?

Is this targeted for the local market or connections?

Then they are screwed. NE-Florida maybe saturated, but IMO this is their only shotvat getting a good footing to become large. It should help that not-too-far IAD, a huge hub for UA, has almost 0 Florida flying, so they can tap into the Virginia home market as well as offering connections, what they should do. PEX is missing out, not even WN is big on NE-Florida.

That's what I'm assuming at least...I can't seem to find a flight after that day.

I'm hoping for the same. Even if their LF really is 60%, I don't think that is bad for a startup, especially with no connections and with no advertising (at least in my neck of the route map). What was Virgin America's LF at their 2 month mark?

MSY is not discontinued. Several people asked about it on the FB page and they said schedules for MSY were still being finalized and should be posted soon.

I would be more interested on their margins than their LFs. Also it is amusing how fast people forget that a new airline can't just get 90% loads immediately most of the time. Well they can, but introductory $9 fares don't really mean anything.

Indeed. I remember them saying at the beginning that connections would be offered once enough routes were announced or something like that.
