I live on the flight path into EMA and noticed it went very quiet tonight. On Flightradar24 there were about 6 flights circling north of Derby with TNT, Starair and DHL sending flights off somewhere else. Monarch and Thompson also diverted flights.
Just had a Ryanair, DHL and Eastern fly over.
Wondered if anyone had any information. Cheers.

BBC Radio Nottingham were reporting it in their news bulletins on my commute to work this morning - they read a prepared statement from Jet 2 that mentioned the flight affected as being LS644 from Ibiza and had landed safely at EMA when a minor electrical fault filled the cabin with smoke and the plane was evacuated on stand. The presenter expressed his amazement that some pax had had to "walk along the wings" to escape - clearly not familiar with planes that have overwing emergency exits then?

Seems a bit odd that they had to evacuate on the stand. One report I read said they aborted a landing and circled for a while before coming into land again, quite heavily. Said there were fire engines waiting for them on the runway.
If they evacuated on the stand, that doesn't explain why the runway was closed and planes diverted.

Quite common at smaller airports. If the airport fire crews are attending to an actual or suspected fire, there may not be sufficient fire cover remaining to meet the minimums to allow landings and take-offs to continue.
