You got me wondering so I checked UA.com and 795 is indeed showing 269 seats. Ironically, on their website, United adds 8 + 40 + 221 to equal 268. Someone needs to redo their math!

My bad again. Need to look into it. Think it actually might be a modification to the Cabin Altitude Warning System and Central Air Warning System to differentiate between takeoff configuration warnings and cabin altitude warnings. Think this is it.

Rumors are circulating that a reprieve is in the works for the three class 763 fleet. 1 aircraft still to exit this year, but other 20(?) to be refitted with two class, winglets, and new cockpit displays. This, on top of keeping an additional 9 ETOPS 757's shows a welcome bit of forward thinking: replace some Atlantic narrow bodies and keep the 737 out of Hawaii markets it can't serve properly.

Very interesting. I welcome this rumored info! Keeping the 763s and reconfiguring them as two-class would enable UA to improve the pax experience on the routes they currently fly, to do TATL routes that the 752 can't, and possibly to increase gauge on others like TXL, STR, LHR, BHX, MAN, EDI, GLA and so on. There are S. America routes that could be upgauged like BOG, or potential new ones like COR, MVD and BSB, and service to EZE, GIG and GRU could be augmented. Freed-up 752s could be used throughout the system, including Hawaii.

Any update on the 763s ?? I understood 1 of the leased a/c would be leaving this year but that there were 2 or 3 others in early '15??

If UA does in fact install power in XMN (this time) I will be very impressed. If they actually install it on other craft afterward, I will be even more impressed. They said power would be installed all the way back in 2013.

Looking at the Fleet Plan from July 24 there should be 15 757's retired in Q4 this year (38 total on the year). With N577UA being the last that was announced here (forgive me if I missed a subsequent detailed announcement), what is the next batch of 752s expected to leave?

October Fleet Update is out...

Interesting that all of the 763s still show in service at the end of this year....the last plan showed one retirement. I think this might throw some fuel on the "the 763s will be refurbished and kept" rumor. UAs fleet report is of active aircraft only so there may be a couple of 739ERs sitting around going through induction that are not counted as well as the 1 744 in charter configuration.

IIRC UA owns the 135s so that may be due to 50 seaters coming off capacity purchase agreements.

UA also said on the earnings conference call that they acquired 2 additional 737-700s from a leasing company to back fill some of the 50 seat jets that are leaving. Anyone know where they are sourcing them from?

Also any info as to when these two additional 73Gs will be in service? Sould be interesting to see how much effort to match interior apperence and galley configuration there will be. I'd make them Ships 0740/41... But I suspect I won't be included in that planning

It makes perfect sense. They'd fit perfectly into their fleet and would offer them a lot of flexibility. Boeing is purchasing up to 20 E190s as part of the deal for the 737 MAX at AC and they're looking at options for the remaining 25 frames so a total of 45 frames will be available.

That would be huge news. Is this a rumor or can the information source be considered to be relatively solid?

During the the Earning Call it was one of the question during the Q&A....and they said that they are actively looking for used 737-700, A319, & E190

Interesting, I'd thought they'd have gone for 738/320. 190 is interesting. ..

Not to state the obvious but do they really need to look very hard to find used 190s? Boeing HQ is a few blocks from UA HQ and AC is a *a partner. If they really wanted 190s they could probably make a local phone call in the morning and sign the papers before lunch.

Did UA sell back the 2 A330s it bought from and leased to AC as part of AC's reorganization? If not, could be a nice trade for E190s.

Are there any details on the planned 763 re-configs? I recall some ideas posted here that would just remove the 6 F seats and move the J seats forward, rather than go full-retrofit like they did with the current 2-class 763s. Personally it seems like it'd make sense to have all 25 eventually have the same config (or at least the same # of seats) from a flexibility standpoint though.

I'm just repeating what they said on the conf. call but they said it would 11 763s and would involve new interiors, winglets, and other operational upgrades that will allow them to fly into the next decade.

Would the E190's be operated by United crews?

Yes, there's a pay scale for 100 seat a/c and ALPA would never in a million years let Express fly them. They also have to add narrowbody aircraft to the fleet, due to the influx if E75s as part of the pilot contract.

I think they would prefer them, but I think it comes down to availability. There aren't many good used 738/A320 frames, and doubt there will be until the MAX. But there are some 73G/A319s out there.

This is good news. Not keeping all 21, but 11 is good. The one frame scheduled for fleet exit this year has a reprieve (apparently).

The aircraft will be reconfigured to match the existing 14(?) two class aircraft; new interior, winglets. The entire fleet of 25 may also receive cockpit upgrades via Rockwell Collins retrofit.

I'm not seeing any additional 737s besides the 9's on the newly released October fleet plan so are we to assume these new(used) 737-700 will enter next year?

On the conference call they mentioned that they were looking at 319, 320, 190 and next gen 737 aircraft....

...sounds like they are open to adding any narrowbody that is currently in the fleet (sans 757 of course.)
I know the voices in my head aren't real but sometimes their ideas are just awesome!!!

From my calculations, I think the 2 73Gs are included in the fleet plan in the 4th quarter since the fleet numbers add up with 2 new units. There have been 26 deliveries in 2014 so far. According to the new fleet plan, there would need to be 3 more 837/838/839 to equal the 29 new aircraft. So, we're either getting a total of 29 739s in 2014 or 27 plus 2 73Gs.
In either case, the new aircraft can add lift and/or continue to allow aggressive mod work for WiFi installs and slimline seating. There are currently more than 13 73NGs in maint/mod of which 11 are probably getting WiFi. and possibly scimitar winglets.

738:
N14230 sked to exit INT 241/24Oct with WiFi, maybe scimitars, but lowest fleet number to get them is 3259
N34282 entered INT 2140/24Oct for WiFi and probable scimitars

752:
N556UA appears to be a fleet eixt, entered SFO 340/23Oct
N564UA appears to be a fleet exit, entering SFO 685/24Oct

772:
N225UA sked to exit CWF 2138/24Oct with Intl WiFi
N784UA sekd to enter CWF 2139/24Oct for WiFi

I assume this is partly influenced by the shift from 788's to 10's, and the corresponding delay in deliveries.

And I wonder what makes UA think these planes will last any longer at UA than they did at AC? I was really hoping they would seriously considered the C-Series, and that it could eventually find a home as a replacement for 319/73G's. This also could make the reporter who suggested B6 and UA swap 320's for E190's look like he was ahead of the curve, even if it never happens. Don't get me wrong, the E Jets are my absolute favorite plane, but I think the C-Series has the potential to be my 2nd favorite plane...if I get a chance to fly one in my lifetime.
