RE: United Fleet Upgrade Status Part 21

Fri Oct 24, 2014 1:47 pm

The C Series is behind schedule and having issues during testing. While it may be an option at some point, many airlines are leery of the a/c judging its sales so far. It's been in development for ten years, had an un-contained engine failure that grounded the a/c for months and has garnered only about 250 orders so far.

The 190 has reliability issues of its own which is one reason AC is looking to dump the planes.

UA is trying to find more used 320/737s which could fly for the next ten years or so but there aren't many on the market hence the squeeze.

Back in domestic fleet. Was on loan to Guam Based Operations.

N14230 sked to exit INT 241/24Oct with WiFi, maybe scimitars, but lowest fleet number to get them is 3259

No Scimitars, but did get WiFi.

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 148):
N34282 entered INT 2140/24Oct for WiFi and probable scimitars

Scimitars and WiFi scheduled.

# 718 is awaiting STC approval for KA MOD.

#275 A/C inducted for slimline, Mid cabin,NGS,SSW and LTV/KA Mod's.

#836 Aircraft inducted for KA/SSW mods.

#824 in MCO for SSW MOD.

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 148):
From my calculations, I think the 2 73Gs are included in the fleet plan in the 4th quarter since the fleet numbers add up with 2 new units. There have been 26 deliveries in 2014 so far. According to the new fleet plan, there would need to be 3 more 837/838/839 to equal the 29 new aircraft. So, we're either getting a total of 29 739s in 2014 or 27 plus 2 73Gs.

3 more -900ERs coming in Nov-Dec.

3 more in Jan

4 more in Feb

2 more in Mar.

This is good news. Not keeping all 21, but 11 is good. The one frame scheduled for fleet exit this year has a reprieve (apparently).

The aircraft will be reconfigured to match the existing 14(?) two class aircraft; new interior, winglets. The entire fleet of 25 may also receive cockpit upgrades via Rockwell Collins retrofit.

UA keeps updating and changing the plans for the 3 class 763's. It is great news that 11 of them will for sure be staying in the fleet however I think that number may be increased as UA continues to tweak the fleet. I really hope more of the 3 class 763's will get a reprieve and have their lives extended and interiors updated to match the 2 class 763's.

I think they would prefer them, but I think it comes down to availability. There aren't many good used 738/A320 frames, and doubt there will be until the MAX. But there are some 73G/A319s out there.

There are a few good A319/320 options out there. For example Silk Air is retiring theirs and you know SQ kept those in good shape or at least the one I road a few months ago. 10 year old plane was nicer than most ones operating in the US.

Don't know why they just can't register them as NxxxUA, and there are several sequences not taken, but then that would be something PMUA, and we can't have that.....

Problem is if one or more numbers are already in use in that NxxxUA sequence. that why CO used the N??xxx pattern. If someone can come up with a software program that ignores the first two digits the sequencing works just fine.
What also would work is NxxxU(a,b,c,etc) like AA and DL use.

With the current order, the last sUA 739 should be #850, which will work out perfectly. If sCO has more on order I'd think they would continue on from #479.

479-499, 875-899 plus the 300 & 600 sequences are open. If they solve the '0' first digit problem that frees the true 3000 series for use.

All the 752s that flew to GYR are listed on Planspotters as Leased from PMCC and built in 1992 so may have had the same terms.

The remaining sUA PMCC leased 752s (Non-ETOPS) are
513UA/1990
562UA/1992
565UA/1992.

N551UA and N552UA are also PMCC, but are currently part of the 9 ETOPS sUA fleet. I guess they may go as well.

I saw this one tonight at IAH, parked at C-14. The dome on the upper fuselage of that 763 made me realize United is now doing the int'l 767 fleet with wifi...didn't expect the 767s to get it so soon!

Spotted a new delivery today --

N86311 was at IAH gate C-17 around 3pm preparing to fly to BDL as UA3747...later, after it returned to IAH, it went to OKC.

Houston seems to be hogging all the new company-owned E175s right now -- I've seen them going to all kinds of places, like IND, CMH, MSY, AUS, SAT, BDL, YUL, YEG, MSP, DTW, ATL....gosh, sometimes there are as many as eight or nine E70s and E75s sitting around C-17 thru C-26, where they are based.

Yes, that is a serious drawback. But even so, I was pleased overall with the 12-hour flight in coach. For coach, anyway.
And, when you think about it, The 17.2 inch seats are the same as the 17.2 inch seats in 747 coach, or 737 coach....
I'm actually far more aggravated by 3-3-3 seating versus the seat width. Being a window seat guy, I mean.

let me know if there are corrections,

Ask and you shall receive   Overall, it looks like the total active aircraft in UA Blue is around 29 or 30 depending on the CR2s.

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 182):
CRJ-200 ASA, now Expressjet (12/13) 820AS, 825AS, 827AS-830AS, 832AS-836AS, 877AS. (826AS UA Blue)

N877AS is going over to AA. Suspect that N826AS is doing the same, so the total should be 11/12 or 11/11.

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 182):
B1900D Silver Gulfstream (10/13) 81535-81536, 16540-47542, 81546, 87551-87552, 81556-87557. (38537/81533/81538 CO Express) (all may go away with CLE hub)

Most of these have been sold/stored in the last several months. The remaining 5 haven't been active on flightaware/etc in quite some time, so it's likely that they're now gone, post-CLE dehubbing.

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 182):
ERJ-145 Trans States (15/27) 802HK, 809HK-811HK, 829HK, 832HK, 834HK-836HK, 853HK-857HK. (812/833/838/839/841/842/843/844/845/846/847HK UA Blue, 806HK, Trans States House)

812 in House colors as of Oct 26.

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 182):
RJ-700 SkyWest (65/70)...(756/758/760/762/764/979SK UA Blue)

979 should be taken off the blue list

I was in CLE a couple of weeks ago and there was one sitting behind the D Concourse; it was stripped of markings and appeared to have been there for a while. I wasn't able to catch the reg.

Likely one of these - N81535, N81536, N81546, N81556, or N87557. All the others had been stored/sold. Looks like on flightradar that they've all been inactive since 10/31.

Article on Bloomberg about possible Embraer (E2) or BBD (CS-100) purchase. Strange comparison with maximum size E2 and smallest C-Series.

Thank you for the updates. As UAL approaches the 5 year mark since the merger announcement, it's nice to see so much work being completed. Now if I could only get the WiFi on the UAL planes to work on my iPad....

There was a seperate forum on this but it disapperead. If we look at the 2 class numbers for both aircraft it would 118 (E195) vs 108 (CS100). I think UA should go with both the CS100 & 300. The CS100 to act as their true 100 seater and the CS300 as their A319 replacement. From DEN,ORD,LAX,EWR (UA Hubs) the C-series can reach anywhere in North & Central America. Something I dont think the E195-E2 can do.

Your errors have been so few that these really did stand out.

Thanks to you - and everyone who's contributed to this thread - it's been fun to watch the merger evolve, but I'm still glad that I pulled the eject handle when I did.

I didn't pull the eject handle; I sometimes kick myself, but for the most part, it's not been so bad. The devaluations and whatnot are aggravating, but not unique to NewU. Delta has been hammering their elites as well, and AA is too busy trying to make a merger work to pay any attention to loyalty program cheapening.. but it'll come.

I will say that the onboard soft product AND service attitude definitely needs improvement. A seatback TV screen or streaming Big Bang Theory to my dying iPhone does NOT make up for sucky flight attendants who treat you like an inconvenience.
Which is a shame, really, because I've encountered some really fantastic F/A's from both sides... but the few rotten apples, you know.

And when you've got managers publicly admitting that only idiots would pay for GlobalFirst, there's a culture problem. I flew NRT-ORD last week, and GlobalFirst was FULL... of PAID seats. At least, they weren't upgraded using waitlisted instruments.

Quoting CALTECH (Reply 196):

669-688 are COPA 737-700's
480-499 COPA 737-800's
550-570 COPA 737-800's
