Delta Flight Attendants To Get New Uniforms

Fri Sep 05, 2014 2:58 am

Email received today that Delta is at the earliest stages of designing new uniforms for their flight attendants. I assume it will also be for the CSA's and sky club personnel as well. The timeline is for 2-3 years before the uniforms will be worn.

From a DL executive in inflight. I wonder if the new uniforms will correspond with any sort of mild cabin refresh or other customer focused changes. There's 2-3 years for DL to plan, but Ihope it would include a cabin refresh or domestic FC refresh, something to tie everything together.

Interesting. The basic elements of Delta's uniforms are nice. Why would they redesign?

Several months ago someone on here mentioned that the female FA blouses were going to be refreshed. Has that happened?

Because Delta IS change, quite literally.

Now, that doesn't mean that things should change for no good reason. But I can understand the need to refresh the uniforms every so often. Fashion does change quite often.

The change is not because Delta considers the current uniforms unfashionable or boring but rather is being driven by an intense desire to reinforce and exhibit the brand; indeed to become a firebrand. This initiative will reach and impact all facets of the business.

About time to refresh the ramp, etc. uniforms, too, I would think.

If employees' would simply order "company approved" attire, instead of buying a red tie from Men's Warehouse for example, this could be part of the problem. Also, I believe the company will reduce the number of combo-options that are available to employee's, currently.

The uniform ties are of very poor quality and are very skinny.

DL uses the term refresh often to mean that employee's uniform allowances will be refreshed. It's usually $150 a year. The DL peacoat coat costs $120. It doesn't go very far other than replacing shirts and pants, which are usually around $20 each.

A memo came out that all above wing, bellow wing, and cargo agents will be getting new uniforms. It was on delta net in a memo at the bottom.

Hi, mayor. I didn't see it on the Techops site. I first heard of it in a eMail on 09/04/14 if that helps.

What, you don't like UA's new terrycloth bathrobes on the FA ladies???
I think that was UA's answer to DL's red dress.... utterly bizarre.

You still have 2-3 years to see the red dress. DL really likes the red dress, and in a new uniform, I expect you'll see something equally iconic as the red dress. And no, it won't be a pink jumpsuit before someone asks.

They are already 8 years old and fashions, cuts and looks constantly change. He uniform will be 10+ years old when the roll-out occurs. Please--we don't want to be like NWA in their 80's style red piping and ruffled pleats as late as 2007!

No--the uniforms are a done-deal. Final designer to be selected this fall. Designs and pricing out over the next 12 months with rollout 12-24 months after that. (24-36 months total)

I think that what is needed more than a new uniform most of all is consistency with grooming and presentation. I see many DL crew in Sydney, some are amazingly well groomed, others l see look they haven't changed out of their uniform since arriving in Syd. Everyone seems to be wearing different pieces, some ladies with scarves others without, knee high boots, ballet flats.... Not much uniformity in the uniform. The red wrap dress is great though.

I think american carriers need to be more mindful of how their uniforms and subsequently their crew are perceived overseas; I personally feel the DL turtle neck is too informal, and crew need to wear their jackets in the terminal. But I confess I'm old school and come from working with the middle eastern carriers, which everything was dictated. But thats what the competition does, and every little thing adds up in a customers eyes, especially in some asian markets. And let me make clear the distinction between age, weight and grooming. Some of the best groomed airline staff I know are the biggest and oldest, and they look amazing. Some of the worst are the youngest and slimmest. And the whole mix in between.

As a branding and customer service nerd I confess, I am very looking forward to what AA and DL come up with. I really feel a uniform sets the scene for customer service.

I found it on DeltaNet on the ACS page in company memos. 2-3 more years for the ACS (above/below wing and cargo) uniforms. Right now, I can't remember when we had the last change of ramp and cargo, but I know it was before I retired in '05.

Expect far fewer options for the women. And if you've seen someone in flats she is out of compliance. There are way too many "looks" in the current uniform suite.

Has the red dress been out 8 years already? I thought it was just a couple of years ago. It was released with great fanfare! It came after Deltalina, right?

The "Red" dress was introduced (along with other changes) in 2006. I believe that Deltalina came along AFTER that.
