American Airlines First 757 In New Livery

Wow. Wow is what I can say. The 757 is finally in the new American Airlines livery!

Multiple people have taken pictures.

Hi everybody,

I just saw the picture of the 757 in the new paint job and I noticed a difference between its paint and others in the new livery. The rear door is fully painted in the tail portion of the scheme while that is not the case for other e/q types. I guess they are trying to keep the tail portion proportional for all of the e/q types, right?

I will say that I certainly miss the all-metal jet with the AA on the tail. It doesn't look that good until you don't have it any more. Those are just my opinions.

I think the 757 looks fantastic in the new Livery. I only wish that the 757 would visit MKE on a regular basis! I guess I will have to make a trip to ORD soon to see it there.

It works better on the 757 tall and skinny frame vs the thick 767 and thicker 777. This scheme works best on the 757 and 737, doesn't look that good on any of the A320 family IMO.

i tried really hard to get a good photo of it and wasn't able to get a photo better than these 2 , neither worthy for this site but i may try a much smaller website i know off , enjoy! (in my opinion it looks great by the way)

There are two things at play here when it comes to how much of the aft door is painted. First of all, the paint extends down the fuselage at the same angle as the tail, and the aft door on the 757 is further back, or more of it is directly under the tail. Those two things will affect how much of the door is painted. Some tails may not be swept back as much, and some aft exit doors may not be as far back under the tail as on the 757. When you look at the various pictures, they're all relative.

I think the flag tail curses the entire New American branding, but it's tolerable on the 757.

I, however, fear it may look dated on the 787's elegant and modern curves. It's essentially a horizontal array of sharp gradients of colors that don't mix too well in such a combination.

Hello from D/FW Airport!
I am staying at the Grand Hyatt, so I took advantage of the "Terminal Pass" for shopping and dining so that I could go and see the new 757. Here it is! I believe that it is scheduled to fly American 122 to MCO tonight, but it looks like it is delayed due to storms in the area.

Two thoughts: The "American" billboard titles ought to be slightly larger. The aircraft windows break up the letters a bit.
Secondly: It would be nice if the winglets had the flagged tail logo on them...

Also agreed... Maybe they can keep one of each a/c type in the old scheme circulating around the system (except M80s which will all remain in the classic scheme).

I know the old livery is no longer practical with more and more "plastic" airplanes coming on line, but it looks FAR better than the new. I know I will be thrashed by many for saying this, but the new livery is not to my liking. Euro-blah white fuselage, with a tail paint scheme that looks rushed and discontinuous.

That's not history, it's configuration. All of the international 757s do that.

As I've said a million times in the last few years: Better than the polished metal livery, but that's about all.

The fuselage of the Boeing 757 looks like a refueling tanker-aircraft which collected a marquee with her tail.

AA used gray in place of polished Aluminum on the A300s until the heavy checks. Same could be done for the plastic planes.

Probably my biggest issue with changing the livery is that I know what we went through at Boeing Wichita to introduce polished skins for AA on the 737s.

I dont care what anyone says, the new livery is growing more and more on me and I really like it. Especially having seen all the tails lined up at ORD & DFW this year. Whatever you say its certainly eye catching and different from the rest. I like it as a freshening of the brand overall.

I agree with you totally. It MIGHT look better if the stripes on the tail stopped at the crown of the fuselage.

As much as I've grown able to see new AA planes without becoming nauseated, I still have to say, this is NOT a very nice aircraft livery.
Whoever designed Frontier's improvement, should have been hired to do AA's.
NO design will make everyone happy all of the time, but this one, even on the "hard-to-mess-up" 757 just continues to look like a five year old's crayon drawing.

That photo makes me realize... the fuselage logo looks like it was designed by one person, the tail by another, and neither knew what the other one was doing...

"Cheap" is the right term. It looks like a livery a low-cost, leisure carrier would wear.

Far better than the very bitty old scheme with random bits of grey paint on all the parts that couldn't be polished. Plus of course, after a while the polished parts just look ratty.

And for all the complainers, please turn your attention to the vomit-inducing new WN livery.

I really, really start liking the new AA paint, a few weeks ago I saw it close up and in person for the first time in FRA (B772) and its beauty finally really struck me when I saw the picture of the DHC8-300 here.

See guys, after a while it isn't all that bad so, especially concerning the fuss about the new WN livery we might just have to keep things a little chilled.

I really dislike how the grey 'American' lettering gets interrupted by the windows, makes it look like a little caterpillar came along and chomped off parts of the letters. Its a bad color choice.

You may want to hurry. I think I read somewhere that ORD will not be seeing any more 757. Can anyone verify this? I certainly hope it's not the case!

I think the 757 looks best of all AA's a/c in the new livery, followed closely by (oddly?) the ERJs. The tail just looks more proportional to the rest of the a/c on those birds than many of the others.
