So before the new livery was released, a problem some brought up was a difficulty to cool the cabins due to the darker livery. The new livery is even darker, will this pose a problem for WN next summer?-

I wonder why we went away from the color matching aft. flap fairings? I noticed that a lot of the CGI show them being blue but they are actually gray.

WN states that the paint formulation has a UV reflective element to reflect the heat and help with the fading issue.

Those fairings were painted orange to allow ground staff to quickly and easily differentiate a 73G from a 733. Presumably, the classic 737s will not get the new paint scheme. I am assuming that the -MAX will get the blue flap track canoes,.

Anyone else wonder why they didn't paint the lower scimitar winglet, only the upper? To me, it seems like they didn't finish the job.
The in-flight photo in daylight looks a lot better than the paintshop ones - except for the titles, I'm liking the livery more and more.

I haven't seen any close up pictures of the heart on the belly of the plane, did they get really clever and center it on the red strobe, for a heartbeat? That would be badass if they went to that level of detail.

WN will hopefully never be Eurowhite. And, EK use the flag of the UAE as their scheme. The actually form of the tail motif is actually very similar.

The font that Apple use is Myriad Pro Semibold. It is not unique. Woolworths Australia use it as well. And thw font is actually unique for WN, it's known as SouthwestSans.

I don't mind it. Although I didn't mind American's either. The only one out there I don't really like is United.

BUT, the big issue I have with Southwest's new one is the lettering. Going over the windows really messes with arguably the most important part and that is the name and brand of the airline. It be one thing if a window fell perfectly in the O. Sure. No problem. But they need to make it smaller and put it all above the window line.

Font. Color. Design. All the rest is fine. Especially in real light. It's just the placement of the text. It's the opposite of the poor choice of text size on the Delta 747s.

The new pictures and clips show the blue is a better fit with the red and yellow than the original-leaked photos showed. Much less periwinkle which is not pretty with the bold yellow and red. I may well not have chosen those colors myself, but it's not as painful as it first appeared. Small differences in shade can make a big difference.

As for the titles, I find the font to be a bit late-70's retro which I like. I'd love to know what font this is (or if it is customized.) Although most everybody seems to be on the sans serif bandwagon (it would be nice to see some variety there) this is not Helvetica. I like the font the more that I see it, including on the website. I have middling feelings about the size and placement of the titles on the fuselage -- I don't hate it but other schemes might have been good. But the font itself I'm liking.

Overall it's definitely a bold livery -- perhaps almost to a fault. But it's distinctive and far better than the original leaked photo portrayed when it comes to colors.

I like the new livery so much better in the A.net photographs. The tail looks so much better, but I still wish something was written on it.

I must have missed it, but what font did they select?

WN has also rebranded the website. www.southwest.com

I will say that this has to be the fastest time from rumor to roll out...at least it is the fastest I have seen or can recall.

I agree, in the sunlight, the livery is rather striking - that yellow stripe is unfortunate, but not so horrible in the light. I do like the white lettering against the blue background - I just don't think font is so important a detail - at least not here - that it ruins the entire livery.

Jeez, it would be nice if they could speed up the repainting program.

I have to say that I LOVE the new website, app, and airport signage designs. The new branding works really well there (and it was about time that WN got a new website), but I'm not yet sold on the aircraft livery.

It looks to me like they designed the customer facing content, and then retrospectively sought to apply that to the side of an airplane.

Quoting susej772 (Reply 164):

I like it more every time I see it. At first I wasn't sold on the font, but I think that United's livery works well. It isn't creative, but neither is it horrendous IMHO.

Also...

...Looks quite a bit like Triple Crown One, no?

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw a profile photo of it.

The font, BTW, looks to be a version/variant of the Futura font that one sees on signage at various airports.

My main critique of the new scheme is that the red stripe's a bit too wide (more yellow should show on the vertical fin) and the back 'stripe' should be orange rather than blue. As others mentioned, I personally would've preferred to see the Southwest titles placed above the windows as well.

As far as how long will this version of blue stand against the elements remains to be seen. At least the previous Canyon Blue didn't peel or flake off like US' dark blue scheme did a decade ago; such was the main reason why Parker ditched that color scheme (but not the logos) for the current (& soon former) one post-HP merger.

I guess the tri-color heart officially replaces the previous winged-heart logo (I personally liked that logo); which rarely if ever appeared on the exterior of any WN plane bearing the standard Canyon Blue scheme.

I'm assuming that the three Classic/Heritage schemed planes (commemorating WN's original 3 cities) will remain as is.

There is one thing missing,I agree with some of you.Southwest has no sign, no "emblem". Why not adopt the sign of Seaboard World ? It would look fine in the middle of all that red. The "heart", although small, is now used with the new titles. It's used subtley on both port and starboard sides near the R1 and L1 doors, and also on the belly.
