Qatar Airways To Increase MIA - 5x Weekly
Qatar Airways has announced that it's flights from DOH to MIA will now be 5x weekly. The added frequency begins November 17th. The new flight will be on Mondays.

There something wrong with this statement. QR is the only ME carrier in the market right now. If EK comes, there will be two ME carriers in the market. EK and QR fight for most of the same passengers from the US. If EK comes, that doubles capacity. To be honest, the O&D from MIA to the markets the ME3 feed (the Eastern Middle East, the Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia) currently isn't that big. Its going to take time to build up. Think of it this way, QR only started MIA at 4x weekly while every other market QR has started in the US has been started at daily. That implies that they are working towards something. It appears to be working. QR is going 5x weekly to MIA now and I totally agree that MIA will be daily in the future, but the market needs to mature.

I think in the future we can see another ME carrier but don't forget that QR not only serves MIA but plenty of other destination beyond MIA with AA, so that's something to take into consideration.
I think TK has more chances to start again, the connectivity is better to many places in east europe, north east aftica and most of the middle east and they serve the route before (I think until 2001) so after thehuge expansion they're having in the last years they can go back to MIA.
We have talked a lot about this DOH-MIA route and seems that finally we can see thst the route must be doing good because they're increasing, however I was expecting to see daily or even an upgradevto B77W, maybe QR doesn't have enought widebody metal so far.

Main advantage that QR has out of MIA which EK wont is beyond feed via AA code share. If and when EK does decide to come then naturally, QR's loads will take a hit in turn especially since EK offers more beyond seats to Indian Subcontinent and Africa/SE Asia than QR does.

The same applies at DFW too, but EK is flying the biggest plane out of the 3.

Two points of clarity:
1) DFW is a much larger local market to the markets the ME3 feed than MIA.
2) QR and AA do not codeshare on the DFW-DOH route.

7,985 passengers flew with Qatar to and from MIA in July. On flights arriving to Miami from Doha, 93% of seats were full. On flights returning to Doha from Miami, the flights were 78% full.
Combined load factor was 86%.

Funny that CLT always gets dissed with figures like that, but the truth of the matter is that nonstop traffic does increase the O&D somewhat. It would be interesting to know how much of the current traffic is O&D or is it just siphoning traffic from other routes.

CLT has those figures to Europe, not the Middle East.
Doha is a small market to anywhere - even Houston with a non-stop is only around 25 PDEW. Dallas is ~3 PDEW.
Miami will probably get into the 25-35 PDEW range with a non-stop, as will Dallas.

The vast majority of this traffic is not staying in DOH. And a large part is not from MIA. QR is discovering an entirely new passenger stream at MIA from Central America and the Caribbean. The Indian Community in those regions are flocking to the flight....where previously the went via JFK, ATL etc. I personally know of at least 20 Mumbai bound pax that have used the flight in the last 6 weeks.

Thats like saying you fly to LHR and don't have an interline deal with BA. Do some of your passengers still connect on BA ? Some Emirates passengers will connect to/from AA.

I don't understand the context of that question. What happened to them in what context? Local traffic stimulation? CLTGIG went from 1 PDEW to 10 PDEW.

All true.
Qatar's flight to/from MIA has always had multiple nationalities on board.
EDIT: I was confused with a different airline when I added a comment to what I believed was a specific nationality on board QR 777/778. My mistake.

I saw this article. It said "Spokesman for the airline gave no deadline for the flight and said it would likely be 2017 or 2018 before it would begin" Referring to ATL.

Good news, I've noticed while booking a fly with Qatar from MIA on qatarairways.com. That it appears now, starting November 17th (First of the new flight that operates on Mondays) is now going to be on a 777-300ER!

That is good news! I think QR suffers from a lack of aircraft at the moment. They now basically have an airport with no constraints--they can increase all they want.
The A350's are going to come in this year, and that is going to free lots of 777's.
I think QR's flight is the only one that has a flight number same as aircraft type! QR 777 flown by 777!

Qatar Airways' long haul fleet.
A330-200 = 16
A330-300 = 13
A340-600 = 4
A350-900 = 43 (Deliveries are scheduled to start in December )
A350-1000 = 37
A380-800 = 13 (Deliveries are scheduled for this year)
777-200LR = 9
777-300ER = 26 with 9 on order
777-9X = 50 on order
787-8 = 14 with 46 on order.

I too am having a hard time envisioning Floridians wanting to go to visit either place in any great number. This has to be more about Miami being the gateway to Central and South America.

Yes I think the O&D must be low, but having QR out of DOH and AA out of MIA make the flight excellent for connecting. It'd be great to know the top pax destination on the flight.

The top flows are probably Manila, Bombay, and Jakarta, but that's just my guess based on their market sizes to Miami. Other top flows are probably Bangkok, Delhi, Dubai and Bangalore.
