Thai Airways Puts More Planes Up For Sale

Thu Sep 11, 2014 5:36 pm

A few months back I posted how TG had placed many aircraft for sale. ( Thai Airways Puts 18 Aircraft Up For Sale (by LAXintl Mar 3 2014 in Civil Aviation) )

Well now they are back and trying to market additional frames, and lots of engines.

According to notification I have received, they have placed following added frames on the market:

5 x A300-600 - MSN 782, 784, 785, 786, 787
2 x A330-300 - 062, 065
2 x B747-400 - 24458, 24459

A300 and B744 are available for immediate delivery, while pair of A330's will be available in Q4.
From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California

The two B747-400s are the only freighters they have.

The A300s has already been parked, and the A330s probably nearing the end of their life

Built in 1994/1995, they are some of the oldest A330's around.

I'm surprised they are flying still most if not all their pax 744's still, given the new 77W's arrived / arriving and now 787's too.

9 useless planes in the current market conditions, it will be very difficult to sell any of that planes, maybe for scrapping and spares.

I'm not sure about that ones exactly, but the first A333 were not very good for long haul. The B747 are converted and they were delivered in 1990, HS-TGJ, HS-TGH.

I flew dozens of TPAC flights on these 2 & remember when they were relatively new.

Exactly!

The A300s should not come as a surprise...

Given that they had already been retired (recently), what else could TG have done with them apart from send them for scrapping???

I flew in F on HS-TGP a few weeks ago and what surprised me is that they hadn't renovated the cabin for added privacy as they've done on other 744s.

Poor A300-600, all of them were delivered in 1998.
They are just too young compared to many airlines' (incl TG first batch) A330s.

Those 2 A330-300s have been stored for quite some times.
The freighter business isn't doing very well with THAI.

But, all in all, no surprise for the news. Just the usual getting rid of older frames in fleet.

Let's just blame it on yields.

The newest frames...HS-TGA, TGB, TGF, TGG, TGY and TGZ have the renovated 9 seat F cabin. The remaining (older) 747s will not be renovated and have the older 10 seats F cabin. Fortunately the 14 seat F cabin variant no longer exists.

Thanks for that info bcworld. I figured that was the case. I also flew in one of the renovated 744 F cabins. It was a much nicer experience than the 'old' open cabin. I did write down the registration of the renovated 744 and it must be on your list. Having done at least 8 TG flights in recent weeks, I do lose track of registration sometimes. I usually write it on my boarding pass, but have misplaced the one from that flight.

Are all those A300s airworthy? IIRC, a few of them were damaged when Don Muang got flooded in 2011..

The A300s should be the most recently retired birds,

HS-TAT/TAW/TAX/TAY/TAZ delivered in 1998.

the A330's are HS-TEE and TEC delivered 1995/96 very old birds.
Aircraft types I've been on: PA31,Q300,AT75,AT76,717,733,738,739ER,763,772,77E,773,77W,788,789,744,319,320,332,333,346,359,380

converted 744BCFs are in a weak market right now... Or is converted as in better cabin?

That is likely what will happen to the A300s. I hope otherwise...

Dijkkijk

The damaged aircraft have been scrapped already.

Airfleets show HS-TAK, HS-TAL scrapped May 2013 and HS-TAP scrapped in July 2013.

Is there a reasonable expectation that TG will get any takers for these planes? Even the developing world's airlines seem to be buying newly built aircraft these days.

Likewise.

What are the chances of those being picked up and converted to freighters?

I hope that they might have another life as a freighter. There are plenty of much, much older freighters in service

Correct.

TKY and TKZ will join the fleet in 2015, BKK-ICN-LAX is planned to be back daily.

HS-TQB, THAI's second 787-8 is on its way to BKK as THA8924 from PAE nonstop to BKK.

Correction to my info above (reply 20), TQC and TQD will join the fleet 26/10/2014 and 1/12/2014 respectively.
(not TQB and TQC, sorry)

That TGP is being retired this autumn comes somewhat of a surprise. It just has been repainted into standard livery a few months ago.
