I wonder if hotel options were better in OKC. My father travelled to SWO 2 or 3 times a year for many years. He never stayed overnight in SWO. I asked him why he never stayed overnight in SWO, he said "why would I do that"?

It is common for teams to stay in major cities near large universities if the schools are in smaller towns. My wife was in the Tennessee marching band in college and the team and traveling party would do this often ... staying in Jacksonville instead of Gainesville when playing Florida, Atlanta instead of Athens when playing Georgia, etc. It usually takes a major city like that to have sufficient hotel rooms for a traveling party that large.

Back in the day, we'd stay in the bigger cities like Shreveport, Omaha, Ypsilanti, before heading to the likes of Ruston, Lincoln, and Ann Arbor. About the only small town we had to stay in because it was far enough away from something bigger was Laramie and it's Best Western (Wyoming stayed in the Holiday Inn). Except for the results of the game, will never forget that trip - pretty unique one. Flew into Cheyenne and out of DIA as at the time MiamiAir had their old 722s (Billie, Lois, Ely...) that when configured with something like 189 seats, loaded with a football team and their gear at elevation, couldn't make it back to Houston without miles of runway.

Thanks for the info...I was wondering who the carrier was. Looks like they have done a couple of charters for UND in the past. I don't know anything about Orange Air...can anyone provide more information???
