It looks elegant, and a fair bit classier than any other new livery revealed this month.
Why couldn't Air Austral have contracted the same designers!?!?!??

The body is a goldy colour, the engines are white. Which suggest's that they're going to paint those still. I think in a similar pattern to the tail; note engines aren't shown in the rendering.

And it's a big 404.

Hate to be a party pooper, but the design in full is a bit of a let-down. The tail gave a certain amount of promise, but this one is a bit like some of TACA's liveries (well the very last one before Avianca took over). And the golden tones look too much like sand. The geometric shapes are a nice touch, though .

Maybe just maybe they are using branding to emphasize the heritage of the UAE? Desert environments are brown/golden in color and of course, the UAE is fairly LOADED so the gold also has another meaning (hidden or overt).

I love bright bold colors but the subtlety here is good and it is a cultural/geographical tie-in to the UAE.

Agreed. At least the coat-of-arms implies some sense of symbolism. What do these generic shapes symbolize - where is the connection to the UAE or Abu Dahbi? Looks like these basically just went "geometry-class" on it like OU and the old JAT.... blah.

I agree, am a bit disappointed   There is too much empty space forward of the tail.

I like the colors and the fact that the design tumbles down onto the fuselage, but what do the shapes represent? Is Etihad changing its corporate branding to reflect this pattern so that the pattern become synonymous with Etihad?

It's a beautiful design, contemporary, yet classy, but most importantly it lends itself as a blueprint for their 'family' of airlines. Imagine the different mosaics in the colors of the Italian flag, or in red & white for airberlin & Virgin Australia, and maybe we should all be buying stock in Jetblue

I generally love the livery but with some small drawbacks:

- The white (not gold-white) engines. Why are they not in the same color as the fuselage? I would prefer engines in the same painting as the tail. It would absolutely look amazing!

Hopes that's the case!

- The logo is a minor issue. Although it is classy they could have made a slight, and only slight redesign to reduce the "copy and paste" feeling.

But I really love the shapes and the basic design of this gorgeous aircraft, the fact that you don't need the logo on the tail, just a lovely looking shape!

Like it, alot. One of the better liveries I have seen in a while. Much better than that "Ministry of Travel Department" eagle looking logo on the tail.

Thumbs up! Finally a very nice new livery after a lot of crap recently! And, not very common these days, better than the outgoing one.
If there´s something to criticize, they could have renewed the titles as well, as the old, somewhat feminine ones dont go perfectly with the bold prism scheme.

@ EK17: hmmm, to me it looks as if they want to use the A 380 as a fire fighter plane. Or this is a female A 380 and the other one is her lover. And in one of these hot Arabian nights, well, you know what I mean, and soon they will have an A 318-baby...

The way I see it, it's neither a major improvement nor is it a major decline. The new tail is distinctive enough and will be easy to recognize...but there is little about the tail that says "ETIHAD." There is no corporate logo, no airline name, nothing. I'm not sure that Etihad has the worldwide brand recognition to pull off an abstract tail like that. NW used to do it with their 1980's livery featuring an all-red tail with no other markings. But NW had better brand recognition. And even they went back to putting a corporate logo on their tail in subsequent liveries.

So while it's distinctive, I expect many flyers at the airport to go: "I wonder what airline that is?" if they can't see the fuselage titles. That's not entirely a bad thing, actually, given the way human memory and psychology work, but it also isn't the best for quickly reinforcing brand recognition.

The rest of the livery is a bit bare. It needs...something.

Unique and appealing, but the tail looks like it was designed by an architect.
It could very well be a modern take on traditional Islamic geometry (perhaps, too modern). IMHO, these geometric patterns do not need to be "modernized" or rendered into 3D forms because they are beautiful just as they are.
Sometimes, simplicity is best.
Nonetheless, it's a beautiful airplane   I look forward to seeing her in person.

I must say Im neither impressed nor disappointed. Its a product created by an agency, probably an agency thats based in a major city somewhere and follows trends. Its not a livery that states this is Etihad of Abu Dhabi. Anyone seen that type of pattern in the Middle East before?
While I think that the colours are something unique I think the patterns is a failure and something Eithad will revise within ten years. (Maybe thats the point of the agency - US agencies and airlines have a tendency to change livery's very often) To me a changed livery means a failed product, Good brands dont need change that what makes them superbrands. LH, AF, et al shouldnt change their soon iconic look. The same look is what makes them a brand with greater brand awareness and familiarity than those airlines that constantly change.

Id put this change into the skim milk category. A good try but a lack of understanding of the market which one worked with. Plus for the colours, the fuselage and minus for the tail.

Abu Dhabis flag is red with a small white ensign in the top left corner. I struggle to see anything in this livery from that flag.
