ORD/ MDW 'equipment Failure'

Mon Oct 06, 2014 10:41 pm

I just noticed ORD as well as MDW are beginning to back up in delays due to an equipment failure. This just days after a fire in the ATC center. Anyone have more info formation on what this new failure could be?

It's not a new failure, the equipment damaged by fire has not yet been fixed.

Perhaps the delay should be due to: ZAU Sabotage

I have no inside information, but there are multiple news agencies reporting that there was in fact a separate equipment failure that resulted in temporary ground stop at ORD and MDW.

Flights in to Chicago's airports briefly came to a halt on Monday afternoon due to equipment outages, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Both O'Hare and Midway international airports were affected, according to the FAA website. Delays and cancellations are expected to follow.

Planes could be seen lining up on the tarmac at O'Hare around 4:30 p.m. Chicago aviation officials said planes started easing back into schedule around 5 p.m. As of 5:35 p.m., O'Hare reported delays of 30-45 minutes and increasing. Southwest Airlines announced 25 minute delays out of Midway.

Chicago's airports are already taxed due to a fire at the FAA Aurora facility on Friday, September 26. Brian Howard, 36, is charged destruction of aircraft or aircraft facility.

The Aurora facility handles high-altitude communications, so that traffic was transferred to other nearby facilities.

OK perhaps thats what the report I had heard intended to imply, though it came across as another issue. Maybe due to the evening rush caught someones eye.
