Two recent happenings I have noticed on my driving by MIA:

The AeroSur 767 that was parked on the East end by the AA ramp is gone. Apparently it was scrapped in record time.

Also, the entire Centurion/skyLease fleet is parked at their ramp in the NE corner of the field. What is the latest on this carrier? Have they officially ceased operations?

This thread is dedicated you everything that is happening in the South Florida Aviation. For example; stuff that's going on in MIA, FLL, and PBL.

I should have mentioned this from the start, but kudos to you Miami for starting this thread! Now us South Floridians have a great hang-out!

Delta operates a 737-700 from -ATL-EYW. Strangely, I found some fliers in SRQ (of all places) saying, "Due to weight restrictions, passengers of all classes of service and Medallion status may only check one bag per passenger on flights to Key West".

3M operates FLL-EYW on Saab 340s, and I did that flight back in January: 7 Hours On A Silver Saab 340B+! FLL-EYW-TPA-FLL (by LPDAL Jan 27 2014 in Trip Reports)

I've got two reports coming whose trips are already finished;

FLL-ATL-SRQ-ATL-FLL, DL.

PBI-ATL-CVG-ATL-MEM-ATL-MIA, DL -- Miami, you'll love this one.

By the way, PBI is 1,000x better than FLL. So much nicer, cleaner, more modern, more organized...the list goes on. For anyone reading this and thinking about going to FLL, please, check out PBI first. I promise you won't regret it.

I guess this is old news to most of you, but I didn't know that BA was sending the 77W to MIA. I saw one on downwind to Rwy 9 about 2 Sundays ago. Are they daily now?

Not saying much, though. Every airport in the U.S. sans LaGuardia is 1,000x better than FLL.

American plans MIA-FRA

The more I think about this route the more I feel that it is a good idea and makes sense!

Good to give LH some competition and if they can run the A380 on this route I have no doubt AA would be able to make something like the a 767 work. Having said that, IMO, starting a route like this would be an ideal candidate for the 787   Look how well the 787 did for BA on LHR-AUS (now going to 777-200 ER) and whilst LHR is LHR, both MIA and FRA have more huff and puff than AUS

I believe the 77W is just temporary.

I don't agree, VCT in this report: United First Class, Piper P-31 FLL-IAH-VCT-IAH-FLL (by LPDAL Jun 26 2014 in Trip Reports) was downright bad. It's EAS, but come on.

I'm guessing you don't do a lot of EAS flying. I don't, either (besides that report), but I'm hoping to catch some more EAS flights in the future.

The BA 747 was there last night at the conclusion of my MR. 744.

I saw a Sun Country 738 or 73G parked at the F Concourse operating a tour charter to Havana, parked at Concourse F. I asked one of the few gate agents still there at midnight how to get in, and in broken English they told me that to get into F you need to reclear security (I was in DL's concourse.). Is this true?

Such a nice C/S on it as well. I haven't taken BA yet, but I did fly the LH 744 all the way back in July 2009.

Also, does anyone know when MQ discontinued MIA-SRQ-MIA? Need that fact for my trip report...Thanks!

I agree with you. FLL strikes me as an airport that was thrown together based on the rapid growth of the South Florida population base. You can look at the roads in South Florida and see that the place was never meant to be as large populationwise as it is.

I wish they could bulldoze FLL and rebuild into a modern airport but it can't happen. The land area is so tapped out you couldn't even build a new airport anywhere unless they used TNT out in the Everglades, which won't happen.

An exodus of French Jews to South Florida is one reason.

Traffic between the two cities is up 140%+ in the past decade; 25%+ in the past three years. It's about 45,000 annual passengers now. NCE's second largest long-haul market after New York excluding the French overseas units.

Why can't you just fly economy? If all you want to do is fly the AF A320 from MIA it will cost you $483.62 for a weekend in January. The Business Class fare is over $1k which is absurd for that flight.

The only destinations in North America from NCE are YUL and JFK and they're both seasonal.

Also I don't think KL will re-start for the 3rd (?) time MIA anytime soon, the yields to/from AMS were always poor and you already have Arkefly flying that route.

Totally blanked out on YUL, which is the second largest. LAX, IIRC, is 4th, then SFO.

But regardless of what is/isn't served non-stop, there is still a local market.

Flew into FLL two weeks ago, didn't they build part of
the new 4th runway over Route 1 (Federal Highway)?
They built like tunnels over the highway with ventilation
right where there might be a new runway.

Found this article, but it's in German. So here's the translation:

Interesting is the new acquisition for the Austrian travel market in terms of additional long-range options . Already in the spring, Royal Jordanian announced that it will fly from Amman via Vienna to Miami and Los Angeles . Only the right aircraft was missing. Now that this obstacle was overcome in this project nothing seems to stand in the way . Originally, the route should start as early as summer or fall 2014 . Although there is at the present time there is no official confirmation , but possibly could have with the summer timetable of Royal Jordanian Airlines , the two U.S. cities enrich the long-haul flights from Vienna".

I was out infront of my house today, and despite living here for two+ years, I realized something. Given the appropriate energy, hydration, and nutrition, one could walk all the way from the OTBS complex to FLL, PBI, or MIA. It would be long, and require a lot of rest stops. Great scenic walk though!

They happen to be sister cities, too  Both are world class tourist destinations, and have more or less affluent expat & Jewish communities (as mentioned earlier). Some businesses have their headquarters in both cities (or in the vicinity) such as Amadeus.

Advertising Strip...err...I mean...Gentlemen Clubs up in the sky. Stay classy, Fort Lauderdale!

The banner reads "Solid Gold and Pure Platinum Party Tonight". Who the heck goes to a "Gentlemen Club" on a Sunday night? Hugh Hefner? Also, note the Florida sunshine and moon in the same picture.

Hi all,

I was just checking arrival and departures for Jacksonville on FlightAware and it appears that Air Canada does not serve Jacksonville.
Has AC ever served JAX in the past? Is there a possibility that they might serve JAX sometime in the future. Of course AC
serves quite a few airports in Florida so I am a little surprised that JAX is not included.

Thanks for your responses.

We also get some other "interesting ops" in southern Florida as well...   Come to think of it, I'd probably propose to my spouse this way as well LMAO.    And also find a way to get an A380 to tow a massive banner!

I wonder if the company who tows the banner called the guy to see if he and his girlfriend were at the beach before they take off?

Was this today? If so, I was just there!

On a separate note, MIA is fighting for Ebola screening.

Also, MIA is in serious conversations with BA on a potential A380 flight. Which also raises the question on a new terminal and how soon will it be done because MIA and it's expansion in terms of passenger traffic has driven of the charts in recent years.
