Where from? Does LH have a lot of these frames, standing on the ground?

Correct, with the exception that the first 747-400 is now in the works to get First Class removed and more will follow, so 747 flights are not guaranteeing First anymore in S15.
All flights from MUC are offering First Class though.

Are there going to be any operational problems with the 748 at EWR? Terminal B does not have much space and the clearance from the taxiways is tight on such a long aircraft. Will be fun to watch!

I don't think there will be major problems, the 748 is about 3ft longer than an A346 and the wingspan is 12ft wider than that of a 77L or 77W but we'll see.

Thanks for the info. Is aircraft utilization as tight as German efficiency dictates?
I'm asking because the Israel europe market is set to boom next summer so I'm wondering if LH could come up with a wide body rotation to TLV if demand warrants it.

LH has decided that long haul aircraft utilization to TLV is not cost efficient, altough they had very high loads even in First Class. Hence they are increasing their frequency of flights with A32S aircraft to TLV from FRA, MUC and BER, Hence if demand will ask for it and more people are willing to sit in those "comfortable "NEK" seats for 4+ hours they will add even more flights.

While there is substantial O&D, everyone I know who flies LAX to India considers LH for the trip (and many, if not most of those I know who *pay* for premium seats, prefer to fly LH). I wouldn't be surprised if half the plane is connecting "beyond" as noted by:

Since EK, and EY started service to LAX, hasn't the transit number to India on BA, LH gone down significantly? I know that EK in particular offers some of the best transit times to multiple India desinations compared to BA, and LH.

That's too bad. LH has always had high demand for flights to TLV via both MUC, & FRA. Couldn't they utilize a A333 on the redeyes to get maximum utilization? Is there any chance LH will re-configure a few A321s to have a sub-fleet for longer block time flights to the likes of TLV, etc?

I can see why LH is bringing in the A388s to operate one of the two LAX flights. The demand is definitely there in all classes of service, however with the introduction of Premium Y, the main cabin will see a reduction in capacity, so perhaps that's why they chose to upgrade the later flight to the A388 from the 748 to not lose as many main cabin seats?

Transit times to DEL and BOM on BA, LH and KL are very similar when compared to EK, maybe slightly longer transit time on BA on the way to India

Can you back up your assertion with profit and loss, load factors and RPKs, or is it just because they are British Airways' main European competitor?

Maybe related. LH CFO in June said she worries about struggling with excess capacity across the Atlantic.

Lufthansa’s belt-tightening efforts come as full-service carriers across Europe confront more competition from budget airlines in their home markets, as well as encroachment on their lucrative long-distance routes by Middle Eastern rivals.

In addition to competitive pressures, Ms. Menne said Lufthansa was still struggling with excess seat capacity on trans-Atlantic routes, leading to lower expectations for passenger revenues even during the peak summer months.

“We had hoped that the pricing weakness was temporary,” she said. “But May showed negative pricing year-on-year, and for forward bookings in June and July, we see revenues are clearly behind last year’s figures.”

DABVF… Thank you so much for posting all this information… I wonder however if it wouldn't be too much trouble to ask you to add the flights of all their intercontinental flights operating outside Europe with the narrow bodies… Specifically:

Cairo
Tripoli
Beirut
Amman
Tel Aviv
Algiers
Tunis
Casablanca
Marrakesh
… and all those destinations operated by PrivatAir!!!

Thanks

Just a quick question… Is LH stopping its newly launched flights to Marrakech?

Another question, where are you getting your information from? Is it a system that is readily accessible by everyone?

FRA-BJV (Bodrum) 1/7 A320
FRA-KEF (Reykjavik) 2/7 A319
FRA-CAG (Cagliari) 1/7 E90

In addition several summer destinations will see frequency increases (e.g. DUB, SUF, IBZ).

I know the 747-8 is a bigger plane than the 744, so is this the rationale for giving it to Boston? Or is it a plane with a different mix of seating classes better suited to the BOS market?

There's more coach and similar F/J on 747-8 but they are removing the 8 suites on the old 744 and the A346 on BOS-MUC are losing 12 J seats but will have premium economy. LH seems to be adding more coach and premium economy for the BOS market.
