Tue Oct 14, 2014 12:02 am

EK is the only airline of the big 3 that operates to HAM 2# Daily (one of daily services Will probably be upgraded to A380 when A380 gate in HAM finished).I cant believe that ET and QT havent started HAM service yet. Will they fly in the future to HAM and what metal would they use?

Will EY And/or QR Fly To HAM?

Quoting lesfalls (Thread starter):

I think QR (not QT), has exhausted it's flying rights to Germany. They have 1 more destination available, but I think they will launch DUS instead.

and the same is valid for EY (not ET) which currently serves FRA, MUC and DUS as per the bileteral, but wants to step in through the backdoor by AB operating HAM-AUH.

All 3 would operate HAM, if the traffic rights would allow them that. Protectionism at work.

Etihad is allowed to operate into HAM, they just haven't started doing so. The bilateral restricts access of all UAE airlines to four German airports, so EY can operate to all the airports EK is operating to.

The backdoor here is TXL-AUH (already operating) and STR-AUH (starting in December). EY can fly to HAM with their own airplanes.

As the bilateral rights are exhausted, it was planned that AB start HAM-AUH then codeshare onwards on EY. But given the recent rejection of the AB-EY codeshare by the German aviation authority, now all that is at risk .

How are they exhausted? I believe it is unlimited flights to a maximum of four airports.

...........without any limitation on aircraft size or number of seats. fact is, the UAE hit the jackpot when they signed that bi-lateral. Better than a good number of oil wells.

For any number of airlines? So could EY & EK have unlimited flights to those 4 cities? And thus EY add a flight to HAM? In that case perhaps I misunderstood the conditions of the bilateral, and the decision to give that one to AB had more to do with network strategy.

Yes, the bilateral is for any airline in the UAE. And it's not those four cities but any four cities. EY's problem is that EK picked those cities first. If EK was only operating to three German cities, EY could fly to any fourth city of their choice. They haven't started HAM because of the competition from EK; they would rather operate to TXL and STR and have now found a way to do that through the AB codeshares.
