Gol (G3), will change the stop (required as they use a 737-800 SFP for their routes to the United States, beyond the range for this aircraft type) for their flights GIG/VCP-MIA and GRU-MCO.
Nowadays they are stopping in Santo Domingo (SDQ) but effective March 1st 2015 (subject to approval from the Brazilian Authorities) they will stop on Punta Cana (PUJ) in accordance with recent filing with Brazilian ANAC (Civil Aviation Agency)

PUJ nowadays is more interesting for Brazilians than SDQ
Gol probably believes they can complement the demand with MIA-PUJ where for sure the competition is not that strong.
Gol will offer early morning flights to MIA and MCO.

Gol will be the fifth airline on MIAPUJ. That's strong competition. AA will now have a monopoly on MIASDQ.

Why do they even bother in the first place? It's obviously not working, and I'd bet terminating it in PUJ would make more sense than trying to hold onto some low yield US traffic.

I don't even consider taking such flight to MIA or MCO. There are so many better options... I know there will always be a market for the price sensitive passangers, but the prices are not that much lower from there airlines if booked in advance.
How are yelds on these routes? Is GOL making money on these routes?

How is GOL doing flying their 737-800 from RIO and Sao Paulo to Miami and Orlando ? That is a long way to go even if the price is cheap. With all the Tam and AA flights does the market really need the 737 ?

I don't get why Gol does this. The 738s can fly non-stop to Miami and Orlando from Belem and Manaus; that's how Gol should be serving Florida.

Probably not as much as you think. Selling Caribbean packages to people living in Florida can be a tough sell, at least compared to places in the Northeast. Gol will be the only airline flying to PUJ from MCO, and even with SDQ they were only competing with B6.

Has GOL ever published a profitability rank of their internacional routes? It would be interesting to know the ones making more money, or either loosing less money.

TUSSEN TACK! I completely agree with you, JJ in alone on the BEL MIA route, here in MAO we have AA JJ and CM already! can't wait to see B6 or Spirit venturing here!

I think in a short amount of time, if not already, it'll be more worthwhile to sell the entire plane to Brazilians headed to PUJ than saving any seats for one stop garbage to the US.I don't take responsibility at all
