Also they withdrew their first old 777-200 non ER last month... So the fleet growth will be dampened a bit with withdrawls. Interesting to see if they can manage to sell any of their old fleet.

A6-EMD was bought in February 2010 by Veling and was leased back. Most EK frames are on lease, they don't have to worry about after market.

Congratulations to both Emirates and Boeing. I wish it had a special paint job like A6-EGO the 1000th 777.
100 Large jets of 1 model is unprecedented though EK will crack 100+ again with the 777-9X. Of course it will also happen with the A380 at EK.
The 77W is an incredible machine that crushed the competing A346 into early extinction like never seen before Especially for aircraft only two years apart.
Emirates order book for 50 plus more 77W and 150 777X is absolute vindication of Boeing pushing the boundaries of both twin jet size and engine thrust limitations of the time.an excellent airframe but also incredible engines provided by GE for the long range 777s. I think Boeing would have been in a little strife without the 777.

Oh Qantas........ Why didn't you!!!!!!!

Regardless of what one thinks of Emirates ( having flown them a couple of times, my thought was "Meh, way overrated" just in case anyone accuses me of being an EK fanboy) this is an amazing achievement. I'm reasonably confident that no other airline has ever operated at one time 100 widebodies of the same model. Well done Boeing and EK.

As of now, the remaining will deliver as follows:

4 in 2014
8 in 2015
12 in 2016
2 in 2017
4 in 2018
11 in 2019
11 in 2020

the 2019 and 2020 deliveries will, I am guessing, replace some of the early 777-300ERs coming off of the ILFC and GECAS leases.

A friend of mine who was a 777 captain with QR, just told me they have over 800 pilots just on this equipment.

I was genuinely surprised, but can only imagine with how many aircraft's they have on order!

Thanks,

Why does Boeing only show 68 77W deliveries to EK (through September 30)? Assume the others were acquired from leasing companies and not directly from Boeing.

Very interesting. How many A345s fly daily for EK? I was under the impression that EK wasn't flying the A345s as intensely due to fuel burn. But I would be happy to be corrected...

That is interesting. Even 777s reach the end of economic life. In particular as new 777s enter the fleet...

Quoting KarelXWB (Reply 9):

Mostly true. On many leases EK assumes the aftermarket resale risk to reduce the up front costs. They rotate airframes through different leases based on the best deal. But EK depreciates aircraft fast enough so that even when they take the resale risk, they are ok to dispose of the airframe for at or near its scrap value.

Quoting BiggerJetsPlz (Reply 12):

I haven't been following EK as closely recently. Do they really have no new routes on the horizon? I searched to find new route announcements not yet initiated, but instead just found a bunch of evidence that EK is trying to build to 4 flights per day (one per hub bank) to a large number of destinations. I see more routes being launched by FlyDubai with EK following later (usually with a short time from announcement to launch) and more frequencies. Is EK really just up-gauging and increasing frequency right now? But they seem to still have some route growth:

They just launched Budapest:

Per a WSJ link "Emirates Expansion Opens Up New Trade Routes in Africa" EK will manage TAAG Angola which has to open connections for DXB...

8 of the 10 A345s are still in service this week. As already mentioned, one (A6-ERF) was retired more than a year ago, and another (A6-ERG) was flown DXB-LDE (Tarbes, France) for storage on October 29.

The other 8 seem to be used mainly on fairly short routes and not very intensively. Their routings for the past week (since October 23) from Flightradar24. Two haven't flown since October 25.

Then again, it peaked at 10% of the 77W fleet size.
On one hand I'm in awe of the EK 777W fleet.
On the other, it feels like this milestone would have happened earlier.

I'm incredibly curious when EK will roll out their first 77Ws. IIRC 2015 is the first lease expiration, but I won't be surprised if all the early leases were to be extended.

I just wish that EK didn't configure their 77Ws like cattle trucks... 3-4-3 is too tight! Hence, why I'd always go out of my way to fly an A380 when it comes to Emirates.

This must distress EK.   Seriously, they bring in customers thanks to the 777's high density enabling competitive prices. Then they know the airline and there is a complex route map enabling quite a few connections.

Seems the only criticism people can aim at the EK77W is the cattle class 3-4-3. Oh but Qatar do this as well and its never mentioned.
I flew EK 77W for the first time a few weeks ago in Business and the service and experience was the best I ever had. Better than EK A380. This was probably because 6A in 77W felt more personal than the more cluttered A380 layout.
The bar on A380 is great but the service and feel of the front two rows of Business more than made up for it.
I had a sit in economy and it didn't seem too bad.
Honestly A380 or 777 ...probably take the 777 and that suprised me...

QR has 3-3-3 Economy Class configuration on their 777s vs EK's 3-4-3. Also on the 777, EK has 2-3-2 in Business Class vs QR's 2-2-2. I give QR the edge here in regards to the better product offering on the 777.

QR i didn't realise. I thought most had gone to 3=4=3 on 777. Having said that 3-4-3 is fine and 2-3-2 in Business makes no difference if your Aor B or J & K. The service I had was the best ever with amazing food and great staff and excellent J product. The crew were telling me they prefer 777 over A380 because it feels more personel.

EK A380s have at the least lie flats in business which makes for a better rest. I have travelled before in EKs 77W in both Business and Economy when I had no choice when heading to Europe on business, and I will gladly choose CA's A330 and 77W product over EK's povo 77W configuration any times due to the angled business seats and less width in Y and C. For frequent travellers on business the toll does take place on our body so the small things do count over time.

Seems the only criticism people can aim at the EK77W is the cattle class 3-4-3. Oh but Qatar do this as well and its never mentioned.

QR is 3-3-3 in Y

Agreed

Having suffered EK's Y product on a 77W at least a hundred times - its 100 planes to avoid in Y. Maybe not so much in any other
other class, depends who's paying; but given a choice EK's 77W is worth avoiding. BA / QR / and a load of others are worth the money on a 77W

Forgive me for asking but then why do you keep flying EK?

Because it WAS my 'home' airline when I was in UAE and I didn't control the business bookings.
Took an age to get the message through to our travel agents

But I & my colleagues rebelled (the job is all about offshore marine) & we got a 'recovery day' if
we have to suffer it in Y in an EK 77W which made EK 77W in Y uneconomic. EK don't offer Y+
and we are meant to be booked in Y+

Then the problem went away

Still get the occasional 77W on BAH / DXB runs, but its only an hour so I can live with it

Whether I've suffered it 80, 90, 100 or 110 times haven't got a clue

EKs seat back entertainment is second to none and the J class is good (if you wear sun glasses)

The crew were telling me they prefer 777 over A380 because it feels more personel.

Y class on EK A380s is far better than on their 777s. No comparison. It's a good example of how inconsistent EK service can often be. Their 7-abreast (2-3-2) J class configuration on their A330-200s and remaining few A340-300s is also very uncompetitive. I can't think of any other full-service carriers that have ever operated the A330/340 with more than 6-abreast (2-2-2) in J.

It really blows my mind when I think about one airline with 100 777-W, they are so huge and SO expensive. Congrats to EK and to Boeing...with a special bow to all the men and women who've designed it and build them.

And...then 150 777-9X and how many A380's? Where do all these fliers come from!!!

In other news, Emirates has ferried the first 777 to the US to be scrapped.

I'm wondering, who/what will be the next airline/airframe combination to hit 100 widebodies? Would be absolutely amazing if that would be EK/380 . . .

Haha almost as good as the 1000th 777 which was appropriately delivered to EK and happened to be A6-EGO. EGO and Envious... that would pretty much reflect the success of the 777 programme......

I wonder if it was planned that way

The 777 is indeed a successful programme. Congratulations to Boeing and EK for reaching this milestone. May there be many, many more to come.
