First A320 For Al Maha Airways Spotted

Wed Oct 29, 2014 3:32 pm

The first A320 for Al Maha Airways made its first flight today. The airline was formed in November 2013 by Qatar Airways to operate domestic services in Saudi Arabia.

The Oryx is clearly visible on the tail fin.

That's a nice looking plane. Not enough green liveries around, IMHO.

Which means I'm unlikely to see these 'in the wild'.

Any idea if these birds will carry a Saudi or Qatari registry once delivered?

Totally agree here. I love green in liveries. It's too bad that not that many airlines use it.

Looks absolutely stunning! Congratulations to QR and Al Maha!

Can anyone confirm if it this a/c was made from the order of 8 A320ceos that QR did last month?

Looks great! Usually ME airlines have some garish looking design. In the last photo it looks like the whole wing is green. Can someone confirm this?

I doubt the wing is fully green, it's probably a reflection.

G´day

Have the carpets been inspected by Mr. U-turn @ Qatar yet?

Expect a late first quarter 2015 delivery

Cheers

No, it's not - look at the port wing in the photo above that one.

Note that these aircraft have CFM engines whereas Qatar's A319/A320/A321 fleet has IAEs.

I wonder what the cabin will be like in this bird. Very smart and elegant livery!

I'm surprised to see so many positive comments here... to me it just looks like every other euro white livery, nothing special? Sure it looks decent, but I'm not sure if I'd describe it as exactly "stunning" or "elegant"?

Agree.
Liveries nowadays pretty much all look alike
Billboard company names, logos that can't fit the tail, and some random 'minimalistic' decoration
Why can't we see something more unique and special?
Makes me wonder what happened to design firms worldwide..

The tail is clever wit it's obvious link to Qatar, and a similar if not identical title font on the fuselage. The green and silver swoosh on the tail looks good - maybe Qatar needs to adopt it and get rid of the United Airlines-battleship look.
Are there any references anywhere on the plane to 'being part of the Qatar Airways Group' or whatever? Just curious.

This is exciting indeed, we finally can look forward here to global-standard legacy-style airline service in the Kingdom. For too long we have had zero seat availablity on all sectors year-round, sterile customer experience on board, lack of customer service, etc. As a QMiles member (Qatar Airways) and resident of Saudi Arabia, I look forward to Al-Maha on delivering on its pledge to become a next-generation type of premium airline in KSA offering unrivaled service, and instilling a greater sense of competition on the domestic sector.

Cheers,

Sam

I looked up the meaning of Al Maha (ألمها) in google translate and here was the result: pain/suffering/distress/misery. Surely that can't be so? It would be a good name for the national airline of ISIS though.

Well, have you seen any Eurowhite liveries with Green as the main color of the non-Eurowhite part?

Well, I do not think so, since the logo is clearly telling the story.

Dear Peter,

Clearly you are not capable of using Google Translate. Al-Maha is the animal which QR logo is based on. Google translate will translate المها into Oryx. Its not difficult to use this feature really.

Green is not by chance, since it is the color of Saudi Arabia. So they are quite clever using QR's graphic references and green for what virtually is "Qatar Airways Saudi".
