I suppose they're roll her out overnight tonight?

I remember on the plant tour the guide said they prefer

moving planes around overnite, less people around

Well it looks just as amateurish as the rest of the fleet does. The only plane that can save that paintjob is the 757, which is an aircraft that makes any paint job look good!

I spent 19 hours on United and ANA 787s in the past week; you know, it's just an airplane. But still, there IS something unusually pleasant about it. After a 11-hour DEN-NRT longhaul, my butt still hurt, but the rest of me felt like I'd never left the ground. No dry skin, no sore throat, and a much clearer mind, compared to the 11-hour NRT-ORD 744 and many previous longhauls I've experienced.
It's still a coach seat (if you're in coach, as most people are!), but it is just a bit more pleasant all around. I will, in the future, swing my booking preferences from 747 and 777 flights toward 787.
It IS extremely obnoxious, I will say, when the FA's lock the windows to their darkest setting. I understand the desire for a dim cabin, but if they could give us some flexibility to, say, pick between the bottom 2 or 3 darkness settings, I'd be a lot happier. What's the point of a huge window that you can't see out of?

I agree, but I think that it is for the best as most people who are not fans of air travel or aircraft won't mind it one bit. I do like to look out but that is why I love to fly the 787, the fact that you can still see out of the window with out having to lower your shade altogether.

Making it virtually impossible to look out your window is ridiculous. I've only had one bad experience out of all my flights with this, and that was on CO. Funny how people are somehow able to live in all other forms of transit with the option of looking out the window.

That's like saying the livery is superior to a focus-grouped logo of a conjoined fetus, as that's essentially what I see whenever my eyes fall upon that mashed-up CO/UA livery complete with the most generic sans serif font to ever defile a fuselage.

I've flown foreign carriers that made it mandatory to raise and/or lower shades during takeoff and/or landing (can't remember which). Usually when an airfield pulled double duty with commercial and military ops.

I hope so. IIRC, this airframe is the reason for trashcanning the last and most classic bare-metal livery in the skies.

I tend to agree. I'm guessing a new livery might follow down the road once they are ready for a leadership change. I'd almost prefer they wait until their ship is in order - doing it now would just taint it IMHO.

I could understand that, though I wouldn't like it. But being forced to close them in the middle of the day just bugs me. But I'm dragging this thread off track so will leave it at that.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to seeing another type painted in the new livery. Not sure if it'll look any different but we'll see tomorrow.

Usually the window shades have to be open during takeoff and landing (and the lights have to be dimmed), as in case of an accident, you don't want your view obstructed by closed window shades or be "blinded" by bright light

Normally the airlines I fly (Europe, Asia, ME) this is enforced very strictly.

Their entire "brand" is an outdated, generic mess that manages to be ugly as well. Completely takes any joy out of seeing any of their fleet, including those 787s. Jeff Smisek's pride and joy, though.

I think the new AA livery looks really good, especially on the 757. Can't wait to see an AA 787. Will they be debuting a new product on the inside?

Hopefully not white, they would look terrible. Enough airlines now have painted nacelles on the 787 for it to not be much of an issue.

I love nothing more than looking out the window, on a scenic flight I'd rather be on a shabby 30 years old 767 than a shiny new 787! I couldn't care less about a cabin with higher pressurization and humidity if I can't enjoy the view.

The number of 787s serving ORD will be much smaller than those serving LAX. So it's normal that ORD's transpacific routes will be hindered. Someone reliable told me that LAX would get the most or the second most 787s among all the bases of AA.

It's always surprising to hear people complain of the 9 abreast in Y on the 787. I'm by no means a small person and yet my experience on UA in Y was excellent. In fact, I've found myself going out of my way to look for a 787 when it's an option.

I think AA passengers, in all classes, will quickly fall in love with this bird.

AA's new livery looks absolutely stunning on the 788 in my opinion it looks better on the 788 than it does on the 772ER. This is by far one of my favorite 788 liveries and it looks a thousand times better than UA's crappy, old and tired CO livery.

Well, it is pretty tight.

I recently flew LHR-ADD on a 787 with Ethiopian, then ADD-JNB on a 777 (both configured 3-3-3 in economy). The difference in room was amazing. I'd be surprised if Ethiopian leave their 777s at 9-across.

The most impressive part of the livery is that some design firm probably got paid millions for that tail.
Either that or an eighth grader from art class is still chuckling to himself that someone used his work.

Truly awful.
The plane looks nice aside from that.

The new AA livery is consistent. Consistently ugly. It looks horrible on every single airplane I've seen it on. They probably paid the kindergarten class that designed it in juice boxes.

I'll really miss the old livery when it finally disappears.

FINALLY! She certainly looks beautiful with that paint. While I'll always miss the chrome, the new livery fits the Dreamliner rather well!

This is by far one of my favorite 788 liveries and it looks a thousand times better than UA's crappy, old and tired CO livery.

OBJECTION! CO's livery is beautiful and classy! Without a doubt my favorite livery. I hope it stays for many years. It reminds me of better days

But the 787 looks absolutely stunning in AAs livery, no doubt.

It does! But it need to be in sunlight! RGH! I want to see it in all it's glory!

The -8 looks a bit cartoonish.

The -9 will certainly look better.

I agree, plus the red on top of the tail really accentuates
the unique shape of the 787 tail

can't wait to see her at DFW
