I've noticed that SU-GBR in Star Alliance livery has had the airline titles on the forward fuselage painted out. It does seem to visit Tel Aviv quite a bit. Are the two connected or is it on lease to another airline?

Was probably operated by Air Sinai, an EgyptAir subsidiary that exists solely for flights between Egypt and Israel.

They don't want to make their relationship with Israel too public when flying to other Arab countries.
Similar to what KLM did with KLM Asia with the PRC and the ROC.

The two instances are very different. Unless I'm wrong (which I may be; I'm not as caught up on Middle East politics as I should be), there is nothing really preventing Egypt Air from flying to TLV, but there is a law in the PRC forbidding carriers that serve mainland China from flying to the ROC.

I'm sure that would be unwelcome news to BR, CI, GE, MU, CA, SQ, JL, EK, CX, NH, UA, DL, MH, TG and a great number of airlines other than KL ...
Any restrictions on airlines flying to both the ROC and PRC went the way of the dinosaur a long time ago ...

There may not be an actual restriction in any country however I was referring to the use of separate a/c. If an EA plane flies to Iran that was just in Israel and something Israeli found on board the Iranian authorities might not be too happy and cause many headaches for EA. This could also prevent passengers booking tickets from TLV-Iran
However I just looked and Royal Jordanian will let one book a ticket TLV-JED.

The only thing that made any of the "Asia" divisions was the paint on the side of the airplane. KLM simply hasn't repainted, unlike other airlines.
The 747 will always be the TRUE queen of the skies!
