Interesting new tactic for TCX. There is surely a gap in the market and if the legacy carriers won't operate it why not!

Been reported elsewhere that the EK website shows EK19/20 as A380 from 1st Feb to 28th March. The long awaited EK response to QR expansion!

Later this summer is when it's officially A380s on that flight. Now there's possibly cargo capability problems... perhaps a 2 or 3 weekly EK Skycargo service may be needed. Or the fabled 4th service

Finally got the 2014 passenger figures 21.97 million.

Taking into account Monarch's reduction in addition to what's planned, I would expect around 22.75 million passengers this year.

Oh, the A380 on EK19/20 in now bookable through to the end of the summer timetable.

Tram news! 266000 passengers on the tram line since it started. Doesn't say how many were to/from MAN itself.

THe other news is that including transit passengers, 22 million passengers were reached last year.

Fat fingers... 7570 passengers.

EY 33000 pax (up slightly). QR 20500 (dowm 5.6%) SV carried 4700 pax.

Changing EI 3 daily SNN to daily FR saw passenger numbers more than double to 7400 passengers. Another route with doubling of passengers was LIS.

Agreed, I'm skeptical about the success of this one. I suppose it could be supported by contract work, like the Viking Airlines service was a few years ago.

Over an hour in the hold for SV123 so far today. Current visibility 200m with RVR 300m. EI 3720 went to BHX and there's been a Netjets go to LBA.

Bit rare for an aircraft to hold for so long at MAN as it sometimes seems like airlines make sure enough fuel is loaded to go just above the minimum allowable to shoot an approach or do 1 hold then divert away from MAN.

I was on this morning's EK arrival at 6.20. You couldn't see a thing until the car park became visibleat the threshold of the runway , but we landed with no problem. The rest of the UK was completely clear, until we descended westwards over the Pennines.

Is it strange to loop for 1+ hours and then decide to divert to LHR. Fuel cost, crew hours and pax inconvenience?

Fuel cost? for SV they literally have money to burn being government owned. Crew hours - think it may well be something like 1 crew operating JED-MAN then staying a couple of days to operate MAN-JED. The only problem would be inconvenience as they'd have to decide whether to fly up or terminate the service at LHR. If the forecast is right then snow may become an issue!

There are some strange decisions made in aviation, so it wouldn't surprise me either way. Just look at Fly Nas as an example.

The Viking service was over five years ago now, so it's very possible that some people on here hadn't heard of it. So you're not necessarily correct there.

Hermes (Greek subsidiary of a French carrier) operated flights via Stockholm and Gothenburg into Iraq and sold via an obscure company called Olympic more recently than the Viking Services.

And yes there really are some rather sensitive contracts involved in both boxes and security

Flybe expansion from 5th Feb

AMS going 12 weekly we knew about but here are the extra bits and pieces:
Extra 4 weekly (Mon to Thurs) to Belfast using EMB195
Extra Isle of Man on Sundays and EMB195s to be used on frequency from Mon to Thurs)
Milan gets the EMB195 on Mon + Sat plus there's a few occasions when they'll operate 2 daily
Newquay get an extra Sunday service
Extra 4 weekly to Paris (Mon to Thurs) with several service operated by EMB195

Odd time to boost service but good news.

I thought they got rid of all the E195s?! If they were unable to for whatever reason then I guess it makes sense to try to make some money out of them wherever they can?!

Also the SV went to LHR as they have an extensive operation at LHR and can attend to the pax. It did hold for a very long time though (1hr 30mins ish), most others got in fine. I think they were asking for RVRs for 350 if I recall correctly from the scanner.

They have 787's due for delivery this year which would make more sense given the number of seats.

The 772 has 14 business class seats and 350 in economy.

The A330 has 24 Business and 264 in Economy.

If it is 250 overall I think it could mean more 787's coming to MAN.

I think that's just the MEN who grabbed the wrong data.

15000 pax in flights 100 times a year (2 x week) is 150/flight in one direction.

Don't think there is as JED the major player in Saudi Arabia.

Scottish APD devolution has seen MAN come out and say that 3% reduction is possible if the Scots do eliminate it.

The odd thing is that VisitEngland says more needs to be done to sell the attraction of regional airports. Well duh, you're called VisitEngland not VisitLondon. Perhaps if you concentrated on what you were meant to be doing then more people would leave London rather than see the numbers not venturing past the Watford Gap increasing.

if you can't link to the story, google news "English airports fear Scottish tax competition"

Stopped snowing at MAN a while ago but they are still finishing off clearing the runway. It was really bad earlier, the motorways around the airport were treacherous! If it doesn't snow again the airport should be up and running again by about 1300. Strangely (given the snow in Chester), Liverpool seems to have been unaffected, and has taken a number of diversions from MAN, they must have been very lucky!

This is for those that are aware of the EK registrations:

Has anyone ever noticed that EK never (bar a handful of times) sends an A380 with the next generation economy on the MAN route?

Every other A380 routes sees them frequently.

MAN sees A6-EDx-A6-EEE.

A6-EEF onwards carries the new economy product. EK 17/18 rotation never has an aircraft beyond A6-EEE on 99% of flights.

I find this a little odd? I know it is a regional airport but all other EK A380 destinations see a variety.

Any insight?
