Yeah, rear-facing.

WHAT?!!?!?!?
I'm out.
If I wanted rear-facing, I'd fly United.
Well, okay, I already DO fly United, but when I fly business, I fly ANYONE else in the star alliance. Because backwards 2-4-2 is NOT "business class."
Why would AA go for backwards???

Because of the first law of motion, and more seats fit.

Only half the seats face backwards. You want to face forwards, then reserve a forward facing seat. That's quite an easy solution, don't you think?

There are people like me that prefer the rear facing seats, as they find them easier to sleep in. I suspect your real problem with UA business is the 2-4-2 and less so the backwards facing aspect.

Hmm goodness... How many varieties of Business Class do AA want?? It's going to be like pot-luck every time you step on one of their planes (bearing in mind very few people care much about what aircraft type they travel on).

Is it me or does the seat look like it's made out of velour in that picture?!

These seats look exactly like the 777-200ER Biz class seats, it's just the confirguration of each row is different (given different cabin widths). Both the 787 and 777 seats appear to me to be very similar in style and design to the 777-300ER Biz class seats.
I am yet to experience the new 777-200ER seats, but based on personal experience on the -300ERs and the many photos of the seats, I don't think AA is going to have a Biz class uniformity problem.

Yeah, nor does it look very comfortable. In fact, none of the cookie-cutter J class seats I've seen lately look comfortable. They're so narrow and thin. Get rid of all the malarky jumbled around it and it'd look downright chincy, like it came out of a Chevette or something.

No problem with rear-facing at all here. My preferred seat in BA's Club World is the window rear-facing. I actually would like to understand what is the problem some people have with these seats as you literally cannot really feel anything different besides during takeoff and landing...

I am initially skeptical about the rear facing seat, but when you think about it, in an emergency landing you would be much safer. We tell the pax to lean over and grab their ankles in an emergency landing, at least rear facing would have the back of the seat to take more of the brunt of a sudden forward lurch or motion. The front of the plane is more vulnerable in an accident as well. I would feel weird in one and again, I am a "look out the window" kind of guy, so I don't like it being so difficult to get close to it and check out the sites.

Did I miss something or is there also no mention of the new AA pass through self service biz class snack/drink bar? Seems strange that the 772 and 773 both will have it and the new 78's won't.

My issue with UA's rear facing seat (other than the crashing sensation of the steep downward pitch of the aisle on takeoff) was 15 hours of staring someone across the aisle in the face. It really didn't feel like I had any place else to look. Before the flight I was so concerned about the person directly in front of me, with the TV in the way, that turned out to be a non issue, but I never considered across the aisle.

From the picture here, that should probably be ok for the outer seats facing the windows, but you can't see the middle seats and what they face.

Does anyone else find this material to be hot? Its as though it holds heat and makes me so uncomfortable. So far I have experienced this on the A321T, 77W, and even Y on the A321T. I often have to put the blanket/duvet over the seat to feel comfortable.
