I left those out on purpose b/c it only had winglets added...no interior mods.

Don't go into a lot of detail, but, whats the major differences between the "H" version and the "D" version??

(For example: Does the "H" refer to Hawaiian and the "D" refer to domestic???)

Thank you.

A friend of mine flew on N548US on 11/25 and said it had been modded with the new interior but I cant seem to find it on the list in post #99. He said it seemed freshly modded and looks like it was idle in ATL on the 19th - 24th; perhaps it was done then?

It's on the list but admittedly not the easiest to find due to formatting. I'll fix that on the next go 'round.

Re N548US, it was in IND for the mods 9/1 - 11/18. It's a pretty large piece of work.

Hearing First on the new birds is really f-ing tight.

Which sucks if you pay for flying first.

75X N685DA flew DL9931 DTW-IND on 2Dec. Given that the Colts aren't playing a thursday night game, this is likely for mods. Kind of a bummer that they're modding 75X's before the non-IFE birds.

Also, 75A N538US flew DL9978 NRT-SIN on 29Nov. Are the 75A's being modded in SIN like the widebodies?

The order for the mods is dictated by need for other maintenance. Most are included in a HMV check since the interior comes out during that check anyways. I don't think the 757A are getting mods done in SIN, but I could be wrong.

I wonder if anyone is photographing these modifications. A time-lapse video of the process would be very cool.

Hello n515cr! I know that you'll be updating the fleet list soon, and I noticed that on the 75X list that N6700/N6701/N6702 and N6712B need to have the #6 of their ship #s separated from the reg!

These have rather high cycles (approaching 40,000 apiece) so I doubt they will get another heavy check. But I don't know when that will be, and past practice is to use the aircraft heavily until the heavy check comes due to reduce the load on other aircraft.

I agree they're the worst 757s in Delta's fleet.

They have all had their last "C" check and will not have another HMV. They will retire before the next check comes due. Retirement in early 2016 at the latest.

I know that FlightAware is frequently inaccurate in updating flights; as an example neither of these two flights show up at all. However the last DL #9978 flight shows a B752 going ATL-VQQ on Nov 28th! Which ship # was this one then?

N718TW is the ship which flew ATL-VQQ as DL 9978 on Nov 28th, and as it was already modded back in April/May, it has obviously gone there for MX.

I think the reported worst thing about these '57s are lack of air vents. But I have to say, I love the F class seat with the footrest on these birds. I flew on one BOS-ATL back in February 2009.

On the lists would it be possible to use an asterix, or other symbol, say before the reg to show when a bird has moved from one list to another? Would particularly help with retirements.

I doubt that they will be around much longer. They are looking a little long in the tooth and feel just as old when flying them. I have to admit the same thing, that I fly to SLC to avoid those aircraft and then I usually sit in first because it is such a long flight. I was hoping that they would put a couple more wide bodied aircraft flights in to HNL but it seems that due to lack of premium revenue we are getting a plethora of narrow bodied, one foot in the grave aircraft. It would be nice if AA would send a A321T to HNL and back from LAX to connect with its 773 to LHR, that would be nice.

How much revenue does AA get on LAX-HNL vs. LAX-JFK? I think we'd find the answer there on why AA doesn't put the A321T on the route. It'd be nice to have, but it sounds like a recipe for losses for the airline.

Can we assume that since DL has now officially announced "The New Delta Experience Coming March 2015", that all future aircraft being modded will now have the latest seat covers installed and any other rebranding? I wonder whether N548US has the new seat covers already, and whether the two 75Es being converted to 75S will also have the latest look? Or will N685DA, the latest to go into mods, be the first with the new branding?

N712TW has done it's first post-mod test flight and, as n515cr has posted above, she should be back in ATL soon.

Flew to ATL today as DL9932.

N595NW flew a test hop today, so it should return to ATL soon. Once that happens and a pair of 75Es and 753s fly to VQQ and SAT, respectively, to fill the voids, I'll update the list.

N721TW has also gone to VQQ, although she was modded there earlier this spring. Is this to have the latest seat covers and other rebranding installed? I would have thought that this could have been done at ATL, if in fact this is what's being done!

I recall reading somewhere, might have been FT, that there was an issue with some of the first 75S' being a bit short in row 1, so they're expanding it by reducing the closet a bit. This would only affect the first 5-6 aircraft as all the ones going through mods wouldn't have this issue. Again, not sure how much truth there is to this, but it seems pretty plausible and would explain the 2-3 aircraft returning to VQQ for a few days.

Side note, 753 N593NW appears offline and may have gone to SAT for mods. Will monitor.

I'm not sure what the internal differences are going to be other than the seating configurations which are as follows:
75D F18/W28/Y151
75H F20/W29/Y150

Thus all the non-75E/S versions will have their F seating going from 26/24/and 22 down to 20 and 18. I'm just not sure which current versions become the new versions, as there are so many of them!

My understanding is that there will be just 2 seating configs of the 757-200 when all this is done - one lie-flat (75S) and one domestic/interport (75H/75D).

The difference between the H and D versions, from what I've heard, is just that the D version is ETOPS rated and will have satellite WiFi.

It does not have the new seat covers.

H- Hawaii/Interport aircraft
D- Domestic

Seating config is the same, only difference is the seats on the aircraft (meaning the company that made them).

5648 has the new larger IFE up front and the older style IFE in the back.

RE: Delta Aircraft Refurbishment

Mon Jan 05, 2015 1:59 am

In the interest of keeping this thread going while waiting for aircraft to cycle in/out of mods, I thought it'd be interesting to discuss some of the other domestic aircraft expected to receive mods.

738's:
- When will the non-AVOD aircraft begin to receive mods (if some haven't already)? If so, where?
- Will the IFE equipment be the same as the existing 738's, or will this batch look more like the 739's?

739's:
- When will these begin to receive Sat TV? I've read that there was an issue (nearly a year ago now) with the radome not being up to the FAA's standards.

Int'l Fleet WiFi:
- DL's announcement from 1 year ago stated that this work will be done by the end of 2015...what's the status on these?

A319's:
- The announced mods include Sat TV. What's the timeline for those?

Also, any word on the status of the formerly-IS&S cockpit upgrades. Given the delay in announcing the replacement vendor and schedule, I actually wonder if moving forward with IS&S might not have been a faster solution.

In its latest conference call, IS&S claimed that the MD88 project was something akin to doing a favor for a favored client, sort of as if it wasn't work they really wanted or needed. REALLY? It was their biggest freakin' contract for a whole bunch of ships.

And it's a high-profile failure that would give me pause as a potential customer.

But what do I know?

N538US is back in NRT after its visit to SIN. What we don't know is whether SIN is now doing the interior mods for the Pacific-based fleet or just doing scheduled mx.

Saw that as well. Will monitor dl.com and seatmaps for a few days to see if anything of note appears. It was OOS out 37 days, so approx half of what it took to mod the first aircraft.
