Normal in the course of business, while I am in a completely different industry (property management) I have many vendors that will take losses on occasional special projects to keep their regular contract work, best part is no skin off either back when you want to cancel as they really did not want to do the work anyways so doubting any bad blood between the two. Now IS&S may be reactive after the fact and this may have been a lucrative contract but it's all a dog an pony show and you don't piss of your biggest customer even if they created a temporary loss. Trust me there is quite a bit of infighting between many large companies on contracts, managers are paid to make it all smell like roses in the end.

5650-5657 will be 75D, along with 685-699, 6700-6717

NW had 5635-5649 delivered in the mid 90's with full ETOPS equipment on them. At one point, NW had orders for over 70 757-200's (total fleet size, not total future orders), at least until the 757-300 was announced. NW converted their remaining 757-200 orders into 757-300's, rounding out the total 757 fleet at 72: 56 757-200, 16 757-300.

The last few 757-200's, 5650-5657, were delivered concurrently with 757-300's in 2002. NW no longer saw a need to have ETOPS on the last few 757-200's, as all 16 of the 757-300's would get ETOPS, to replace the DC10-40's on Hawaii routes. As such, 5650-5657 never got the full ETOPS equipment that the earlier 5600's had.

I may well be proven wrong in the end, but until then I really doubt that 5650-5651 will be called 75H's, considering they are now, and will be in the future, totally unable to go to Hawaii.

That all said, I always thought it would have been a smarter use of aircraft to place EOW birds on the interport flying, rather than 'waste' full ETOPS ones on it. Flying to NRT and SPN doesn't require ETOPS, only Extended Over Water. With that, I always felt using 5650-5657 in NRT would have been better, considering ships like 39, 40, 41, 42, 43 could all do HNL/OGG/KOA/LIH, whereas 50-57 cannot.

But what do I know, I don't run the show.

However, at present, NRT-GUM and NRT-SPN are actually dispatched as ETOPS-180 flights, despite not requiring it. If you're right, and 5650-5651 are to become 75H's, they'll need significant rework and mods to become ETOPS aircraft. Unless DL intends to change their entire methodology of dispatching those 757 interport flights, entirely.

I don't think that's the case here. DL were not an existing client of IS&S, nor was the MD mod a small side project from their regular work. As MIflyer points out, the MD mod was essentially 85% of the company's total revenue backlog. It was by far and away the org's number one priority.

The post didn't go into the detail. Extra mainline narrowbodies would permit yet more (up from 325 in the current mainline pilot contract) 2-class RJs. It's conceivable the 50-seater count could drop below 75, forcing some difficult network drops from today's ~200.

That looks to be the case...oldest of the active 752s, anyway.

All four 75Vs were delivered to SQ in 1984. N751AT is the oldest with a delivery date of 12 Nov, 1984.

Those are not new seats; they are the existing seats re-covered and re-stitched. The domestic 763s haven't gotten any extensive mods in a while, and are unlikely to since they are planned to be retired (with the possible exception of the four ETOPS Hawaii aircraft).

Yep, just landed in ATL a few hours ago.

Possibly may have had other work done. The 'estimate' was based off one aircraft, which probably isn't the best way to go about it, but it's all I had  

It was also in a different config than the first aircraft that was modded, so that may have something to do with is.

N581NW appears to be scheduled to exit SAT tomorrow on a revenue flight (DL1790), and N596NW is flying the inbound leg of DL1790.

Are ships 5639-5643 ETOPS-180 or EOW-90?
