JAL 737-800 V40

Sun Nov 23, 2014 7:52 pm

Could not find a thread about this. Why is the numbering on JAL int. 737 so strange? It goes up to 22 at the emergency exit and then it jumps to 45. And why not ABC-DEF? the ABC-HJK is not intuitive at all.

Anybody care to shed some light?

Cheers

Probably commonality with the rest of their fleet. UA has 22 "rows" on the Dash 8-200.

They obviously prefer that the window seats on the 737s match the designations of window seats on their widebodies. That way if you select a K seat you know it's always going to be a window seat regardless of aircraft type. And C and H will always be aisle seats.

Seats on the 4-abreast CRJs and Embraer 170s operated by JAL's regional J-Air subsidiary are AC-HK, again so the same seats will always be windows on aisles on all types.

Sounds about as strange as LY's 737's..

And to add it up; row 45 is an emergency exit on all (international) types from JAL

WOW. the EL AL one is even worse than the JAL. Moving forward, you cannot rely on the numbers and letters to know which aircraft you will be flying on.

Royal Brunei have something similar with their A320, I recall sitting at row 56K once on their narrow body.

Hong Kong is not China. Not better or worse, just different.
