Usually goes to MIA, 1 or 2 times a year for charter.

This is most likely a charter.

I'll be arriving in Miami next Wednesday for a week of aircraft watching in the sun (I hope!). A quick question for the locals - what are the best days at MIA and FLL for the more exotic visitors, from a European perspective i.e in particular the Central and South American carriers and cargo? Also when visiting OPF, FXE and PBI is it worth contacting the airports or FBOs or can aircraft be seen easily without any hassle? We'll have a car. It's a decade since my last visit to South Florida so I guess much will have changed!

Much has changed in South Florida over the past decade!

MIA gets a lot of good traffic on Saturdays. Great on Friday-Sunday, really.

FLL as well sees good traffic on Weekends.

And I never had any hassle with any executive airports here.

Also.. May I ask, are you coming from LHR to MIA?

I hope you enjoy your stay in the South Florida area!

If you have any questions, please contact me by via instant message.

I have never had a problem @ OPF, and I have sat in a few places a good 15 minutes. It is ironic, because I believe the TSA video that was put out a few years ago was filmed @ OPF:

United is cutting FLL-CLE-FLL on April 7th, 2015, leaving the only scheduled cities being ORD, EWR, IAH, and SFO, with seasonal DEN service as well.

At this moment, all UA has at MIA for UA mainline are IAH and EWR, with Express Service to ORD.

PBI (not PBL as in the OP) is worse, with only mainline serving IAH and EWR.

What gives with all these UA cuts in South Florida? They're cutting the wrong market. FLL, MIA, and PBI all combine to form not only one massively-popular tourist area, but also a market where many people are moving to up north--growing, they say. How can they be losing money on such sunny destinations?

As a FLL-Native Premier Silver who has flown 38,000 miles on UA alone this year, I am deeply disappointed by these cuts. Well, at least we have 3M (Silver Airways) in FLL / PBI so we can connect in TPA and MCO...

Rumor has it that MIA will be getting 1 or 2 new international carriers (That hasn't been announced already) for 2015. More are possible. 1-2 are "confirmed". At least, what the rumors say.

What could be the possible airline(s)? Any guess?

It is only a matter of time for you know who... EK

I guess having Qatar beat them into MIA it has really made them consider the timing of the route launch. I have no doubt that if there wasn't already a ME3 carrier in MIA EK would have started DXB-MIA some time ago...

Quoting Miami (Reply 37):

Nope. 72,000.

It was really quiet on Sunday the 30th. The only line was at TSA, with the beep-beep-beep of the various machines. Concourse D was so quiet that the pre-recorded warning announcements ("Welcome to the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport. This is a security advisory. Please do not leave your luggage unattended. Unattended luggage may be removed or impounded. The owner of any unattended luggage may receive a citation of up to $250") were becoming a bit hard on my ears (especially while trying to spot airplanes from the northwest corner of the terminal). I suppose there may have been some major action going on at WN's desks in T1 (focus city) or the NK hub in T4 (hub), but T2 was so silent that it was sort of spooky in a way. Don't know how busy MIA or PBI were, but I think PBI was probably even quieter than FLL (shame really)...
