No, the U.S. does not grant cabatoge to foreign airlines for scheduled passenger operations.

Question and comments from the little brother up the block...PBI.

Anyone have numbers on how Frontier has been doing since starting back up at PBI?

Lots of minor construction going on right now.

1) Three bathrooms are out of order right now - one on each level - in the main concourse.

2) Gate B5 is out of commission and under a tent being repained and refurbished. Several more gates will be redone over the coming months.

3) An entire bag belt replacement project has begun. Currently JetBlue and USAirways counters are being effected the most.

FIU is just southwest of MIA (I have a cousin attending the university) so it would make more sense than traveling 5 times as far to FLL. I can only imagine the traffic problems his motorcade would cause if he had to travel from FLL to FIU!

F9 is discontinuing DEN-PBI-DEN as of early April, not making it seasonal-cutting it altogether. Although, they are keeping IAD-PBI-IAD and TTN-PBI-TTN.

In other news, F9 just started ATL-MIA-ATL.

Ozell,

I was wondering this too, so let's enlist the help of GCMAP, Copyright Karl Swartz:

HPN-MHH is 1,022 miles one-way when going direct (meaning, in a straight line, not accounting for winds, weather maneuvers etc.) According to Saab 2000 | Aerospace Technology,

Quoting Aerospace Technology]The maximum cruise speed is 370ktas (knots true airspeed), 685km/h and the maximum range is 2,868km.[/quote]

Which is around 1,782 miles, so the airplane should have no problem performing that route.

I don't see any Central Florida aviation thread, so I'll answer your question. First, G4 has a hub at SFB, actually quite a large operation at 58 destinations, so that would likely put a damper on any other airline wanting to hub SFB. Second, SFB is quite a ways away from Disney, Universal, and the other attractions of the area, so that doesn't help much as well. I suppose it is possible, but you'd have to get over those hurdles first.

Anyone know where the new Eastern's ticket counter and gate (s) will be located at MIA? BTW as many others have already said thank you for this thread both parts 1 and 2. But wait! There's more. If and when NK finally breaks into MIA where will their ticket counter and which gate (s)? And what is their time frame. Still feel MIA would do much better with us WN and B6 as a distant second. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe MAH or Miami could shed some light on this, why is there a widebody on this route? I thought it would be to maintain a type rating, IIRC, pilots need a certain number of takeoffs and landings to keep their rating for an aircraft current under FAA and airline regulatory standards. MAH4546, got anything on this?

Also, I went spotting yesterday at FLL, I'll post my personal favorites after I enhance them.

It's not unusual for a widebody on MCO-domestic routes.
Delta often has one to ATL.

As for the upgauge, maybe because of Spring Break?

It is unusual because you hardly ever see IntraFlorida flights on 767-300s, much less 30-minute flights. Also, this flight is run on a combo of 737-800/757-200/767-300 all year, multiple times per week.

The 767-300 on this route, MIA-MCO-MIA, which is sometimes less than 25 minutes in length, is not seasonal.

Not sure I believe that. We're talking about 30-40 minutes for MIA-MCO-MIA, not less than 25 minutes.

And I was talking about the upgauge from the 763 to 772, not 738/752 to 763.

Just to give you some perspective, here is AA's MIA-MCO schedule for today:

3x 763, 4x 32B, 2x738

Busy route indeed year round, obviously capacity is shifted as necessary depending on season.

I was saying the service itself, the 3X 763 on such a short route, is definitely rare. That is one of the shortest domestic widebody services in the lower 48.

As MIASkies said it is not an up gauge, the 763 is scheduled multiple times regularly.

In fact, I even rode on this specific 767-300 here: American Airlines First Class, 767-300 MIA-MCO-MIA (by LPDAL Sep 17 2014 in Trip Reports) It's not at all cheap, but it's an easy way to add an AA 763 to your log quickly. And if I ever have to go to Orlando, I'll definitely be taking the 767 up there again.

Minor FLL update.

The first segment of the replacement upper deck Canopy connecting Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 is now open for use.
The Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 canopy should be open by mid April.
These were damaged twice by hurricanes and are being replaced with all new steel and concrete structures.

Gate F1 in Terminal 3 has been permanently closed to make way structures for the new inline baggage scanning system being installed in Terminal 3, this project is slated to be finished some time in Q3 2017.

I have picked the top 5 picks for airports on what I think will happen next as 1st choice leading the pack followed by other strong contenders:

MIA - International Carriers:

Turkish
Aer Lingus
Emirates
JAL (could be flown by AA or ANA if they beat OneWorld to the punch)
El Al

MIA - Domestic Carriers (not in the near future but soon):

JetBlue (complementing but secondary to FLL - LGA/JFK type operation, serving key markets)
Delta (further expansion to key domestic markets and maybe some LATAM flying)
Spirit (complementing FLL operation not replacing, serving key markets)
Virgin America (tapping into premium domestic and refined low cost travelers - no brainer, should have done this ages ago)
Crosscheck Complete :)

Virgin America!

I'd like that. My favorite LCC.

Quoting SkyBird77 (Reply 182):
How about Thomson at MIA to join the other TUI group already serving?

Would be interesting. But seems unlikely now because of Thomas Cook starting MIA in May.

Yes! I'd prefer ANA but wouldn't matter at the end, IMHO.

Yes... Soon... Hopefully the 2016 rumors lives up.

IAG or not. I'm sure we'll see them eventually. But with IAG. We'd see them faster.

I was shocked they picked BOS over MIA. But I'm sure we'll see them at MIA again.

I'd like to see them all give it a shot. Including Alaska and Southwest. MIA could really use LCC. Glad Frontier entered the market. I know several people that have flown with Frontier from MIA.

Same, but with MIA being a Oneworld hub, Japan Airlines might make more sense.

With Austrian starting service to MIA. I would assume Royal Jordanian's planned AMM-MIA via VIE is dead.

Quoting LPDAL (Reply 174):
why is there a widebody on this route?

Probably has plenty to do with aircraft usuage. It is a heavily flown route, especially for Latin American connections, so instead of a 763 sitting in MIA all day it does a turn or two to MCO. Also keep in mind what a large market Miami-Orlando is. 50 million people a year travel between Miami and Orlando, the vast majority by car. Miami-Orlando is a big market and not just in tourist/theme parks. A decent amount of VFR and business ties also.

Hi everyone, I had to clear up a mistake regarding my previous news / updates,

Quoting LPDAL (Reply 197):
Miami, Mark, and whoever else likes reading my reports, I've published my latest South Floridian / MIA report here:
American Eagle First Class+RitzCarlton MIAJAXMIA - Trip Reports Forum - Airliners.Net

This link is broken, here is the correct one to my latest South Floridian report: American Eagle First Class+RitzCarlton MIAJAXMIA (by LPDAL Mar 13 2015 in Trip Reports)

It contains some updates on the new E Concourse at MIA, currently in renovation.

In any event, I'm really proud of our humble little topic is going to make it to a third part--great job Miami, Mark, OB1504, MIASkies, FlyMIA, 777Jet, Greenjet, 727LOVER, and others who helped it to get to this point.
