US Airways Express Flight's From MSY

Fri Nov 28, 2014 3:31 am

Hello,

After seeing a picture of a US (im assuming Mesa/Air Midwest) Beech 1900D at MSY, I was wondering if anyone knew what the US Airways Express flight schedule from MSY pre-Katrina was like with all those Beechcrafts. I know they did SHV and LIT, was wondering where else they went and if they had any other kinds of aircraft used in their Express operation at MSY. Tried a search but nothing came up.

Thanks!

I know that they also flew from MSY to JAN, PNS, VPS, and TLH (via PNS), and BTR at various times.

SHV, LIT, JAN, BPT, BTR, PNS, VPS, and PFN were all flown nonstop at one point.

Besides the BE1s, EM2s were also used to LIT/PNS/SHV to compete with Continental Express.

Also worth noting that US would schedule actively promote cnnx to TACA at MSY, mostly from DCA. Possible to connect from PHL and CLT too.

They advertised DCA-MSY-SAP and DCA-MSY-SAP-SAL in their printed timetables as late as 2001.

Some of the BTR flights continued to MLU, some didn't. Gate to gate time was, IIRC, 25 minutes.

Interestingly enough, MSY-BTR used to see jet service in the form of AA, CO, and DL over the years....possibly others as well like SO.

Southern and Royale both flew the route as well at one time.

Wasn't much worse than DL's CVG-DAY service... rarely made it to 10,000ft before beginning its descent.

There are still a fair number of these-- ATL-AGS/CSG/CHA, CLT-GSO/CAE, ORD-SBN/MKE, etc.

Former UAL Flights that were the same length...
ONT-LAX
SNA-LAX

Current UAL Flights that are close to same length...
CLD-LAX

and others that are already mentions like ORD-SBN/MKE

Was the LIT service continued to MCI? I seem to remember US Airways Express flying LIT-MCI as well and was thinking it was around the same time.

Air Midwest had a nice operation at MCI with BE1s for US Airways Express. Flights to HYS, LBL, GCK, DDC, JLN, MHK, SLN, GBD, GRI and even ICT at one point.

Yes, it went MSY-LIT-MCI... YV also did LIT-BNA .... that was back in the days when YV (it was actually ZV for Air Midwest) had a mini-hub in MCI
